OK, this one has been bugging me since 1983, in 'Return of the Jedi', why do the rebel forces need a code that de-activates the shield to land on Endor, the shield is protecting the unfinished Death Star.

You can see the this in the briefing scene, when the fish guy is speaking (it's a trap).

Han says"parts and technical group for the forrest moon" over the radio.

So they plan to land on Endor, which has no shield, only a shield generator, which is pointing at the death star, so why do they need a code to de-activate it.

Unless i have missed something, this plot point is a bit daft.

Must have been a little Star Wars I, II and III logic leaking into the last of the original 3 movies. Maybe George was just preparing us for what was to come...

As qwerty points out, it's probably best not to look for logic ... especially in a series of films in which everyone seems to have the most amazing technologies, but the good guys rely on two robots; one of which rolls around on little wheels, and the other is only capable of tottering around in a manner reminiscent of someone who's got the squits and is worried they might cough!

... and speaking of "advanced" technologies ...

In the future and/or on other worlds, your average spaceship (military or civil) will be fitted with such exciting gizmos as cloaking devices, hyperspace drives, plasma weapons, etc. etc., and many will feature a very handy (and not at all dangerous!) self-destruct device, but for some reason nobody will ever bother to fit the equivalent of an ignition immobiliser, so they'll be really easy to nick!

Also, when the authorities capture and impound a spaceship which is clearly far superior to anything they have, nobody will ever be tempted to "take it for a spin" (unless the self-destruct is activated!), and they'll certainly never think of "clamping" it, or doing the equivalent of removing the distributor cap, so it'll be really easy for the good guys to nick it back!!

'Speed', now the bomber (Denis Hopper) said it took 3 years to set up that lift bomb, but comes up with a much bigger and more complicated bomb plot in a few weeks.

Even though the bus has to go over 50 MPH, in some on-board shots, you can see its barely doing 30.

And the best is the jump scene, were you see the bus go up a ramp, which disappears seconds later.

Why is it in the movies and TV shows like Die Hard or James Bond or Nikita or X-Files or Alias, etc etc

when one of the character steals an ID Key Card and enter a restricted area,

Either

1. there isn't anyone in that area and he has all the time in the world to do what he wants undisturbed: open cabinets, go through file folders, take photographs, turn computers on and copy the hard drives, etc

OR

2. there is someone in those restricted area and a "Hi, How are you? I am so and so from so and so department" will get them by without being suspicious.

I know IF I go into a building, any building even if it's just an office building - not even a restricted building or a Federal building, there is more often than not a couple of receptionists or security guards in the lobby.

Immediately they will ask what I am doing there and where I am headed.

I know I won't be able to keep a straight face and lie and even if I did, body language and eyes movements will always give you away.

"Oh Hmmm! Yes! I like to go the restricted files areas! Wait! Look over there! (Snatches an ID Key Card while they turn their heads). On the other hand, I changed my mind and I am just going to go find the public restrooms"

Walks away looking for the public restrooms without being challenged and then sneak around the corner, duck into the elevators.

Wildtig, there is a simple answer to your query.

Smart writers realize quickly that writing scripts in Hollywood is a losing proposition and quit, leaving only the stupid writers. This process continues until the only writers left in Hollywood are the ones stupid enough to think that getting a percentage of the gross profits actually means they'll get paid someday.

I've seen ROTJ a couple of dozen times and it never occurred to me.

Your point makes sense.

There is NO SHIELD around Endor.
