Question scanner problem - any ideas?

hello folks,

I have a problem with my scanner. It's a HP scanner/printer/copier all in one (HP PSC 1410).

Problem is this - when I scanned some color pages this morning - the scans appeared in black and white.

I don't know why

It has been @ least a year since I had the need to scan sth but last time I used it it worked fine & appeared in color. I remember because it was my passport that I scanned.

I would be very grateful anyone who can suggest what might be wrong.

Thank you in advance.

kiwi I'm not familiar with this type of scanner however check your settings and make sure the image type is set on 'true color' and not 'black & white'

I have a PSC 1410, so you want to click on the HP Solution Center application that should have been installed with your scanner.

Click on Settings > Scanner Settings and a menu will pop up

On the far right (I've circled it) is a button marked Scan Picture Settings. Click on that and the last menu will pop up. You'll see a selection of color settings from "millions of colors" to B&W.

Hope that this helps.

other options could be clicking the "restore defaults" button or re-installing the scanning software/drivers..

Since there's already a "problem"-fred, I continue:

A time ago I cleaned the scannerglass (only water) and since then I got some strange and annoying streaks on pics, but only sometimes.
Two pics for comparison:

Since the thing is standing near the heating I thought that the heat solved the problem (moisture inside?, but still ), 'cause when the room got warmer (in winter) the problem disappeared. But as there's no heating now, problem's here again.
I now "solve" this problem by cooling down the scanner and then give it another try. The scannersled is noisy (sounds like vibrating) these times and I get the feeling that it doesn't feel well

Is it possible that there's still some moisture inside (ca two months ago) Or does it really only feel well when the heating's on? Shall I use it again and again though it's so noisy?

Edith says: The sled is only noisy on the way to the pic/scanfield, the scan itself sounds normal.

rather sounds like certain mechanics of the device are damaged or worn out and it's on the edge of breaking down. perhaps start saving for a replacement..

I was so pleased with this model I bought a replacement 2 years ago, for cheap. It's not the fastest but I like the bright and strong colours it produces.
Some people might had hoped I'd buy a model which produces good 300dpi-scans

I understand the essence.. one of my favorite bikes is about 40 years old and has only 3 gears..

Yet, other scanners can probably produce exactly the same color characteristics after some calibrating adjustments..
