Did you know that in 1928 adolf hitler played a round of golf at St Andrews in Scotland?

Though he did give up at the 9th hole, as he couldn't get out of the bunker.

Edit: added 'n' to the word 'buker' to make 'bunker'.

Another ruddy joke post by me which I ruined with a typo.

The body uses up more calories chewing and digesting celery than the amount of calories that piece of celery provides.

When the oil company Shell first came into existence at the start of the 20th century they were called 'Golden Shell' before changing their name to just 'Shell' sometime in the 1920s or '30s.

"The starving part was partially accurate. For a while I live near the [Chouinard Art Institute] in a rooming house. And one day, in a weak and hungry moment, my roommate and I succumbed to a bit of larceny. A greengrocer's truck had parked down the street and was left unattended. We grabbed the first crate we could off the back. It turned out to be celery. For two days we ate nothing but celery and used up more calories chewing than we than we realized in energy. "Damn it," I said to my roommate. "What are we going to do? We can't starve!" "That's funny," he replied. I thought we could."

Did you know the origin of the phrase 'sleep tight' used to be when servants slept on a small bed made of ropes below laced together. If the ropes stayed tightly bound then the servant did indeed sleep tight(i.e. the ropes stayed firm enough to give you a good sleep)...so now you know!

There's a town in South Australia called Iron Knob!

Yes, seriously!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Knob

I actually stumbled across this the other day whilst I was reading through an atlas.

They must get so much stick from English tourists...

Probably the result of a visit to Cockermouth, Cumbria.
