I've been watching some of the test match from Barbados Windies vs SL.

Very difficult wicket with movement sideways and bouncing. The 2 innings of WI lasted about 100 overs, recovering from 14-5 in their 2nd innings to post 93.
SL 2 innings have so far lasted about 84 overs and are 81-5 in their 2nd innings, needing another 63 to win....it's going to be close.

Sometimes it is nice to see good bowling and have batsmen's technique examined instead of them whacking the ball all round the ground scoring hundreds.

Very interesting in Scarborough Yorks vs Surrey.

The umpires keep stopping play every few minutes because of the sea fret.

Also Yorks were given 5 penalty runs because of the behaviour of Dernbach and Stoneman...no yellow or red cards yet.

Twas good 'entertainment' in front of what appeared to be a very full Brummie crowd.

But it ain't cricket. Well not in my book. What would WG have made of it ? Guess one of Buttler's sixes would have ended up in Wolverhampton

BTW If you wonder what the DB83 definition of cricket (baring the obvious) is it revolves a more even contest between bat and ball.

In a 'Blue Peter' moment, here is one I saw earlier today.

I did like comment 105

Our team was getting smashed all round the ground by a team of confident teenagers. We put on an old guy who bowled extremely slow spin with a bit of a loop, they just didn't know how to play him. The old guy took five wickets for one run in two overs, every new batsman coming in being mystified by old fashioned dibbly dobbly spin, panic set in and we won by a run.

I'll see what's in the local rag on Friday.

WG would have been right in there. He was notorious in his pursuit of cash (amateur status was not an obstacle), and would have made plenty playing hit and giggle.

Watching the ladies version of the 'world series' yesterday and the news was filtering though that Rocky Stokes was returning to the field of play after injury and, all things considered, would be available for selection come the 3rd game against the Indians.

Also taken up in the paper today which made me think. Does anyone have the right to practically walk back in to the national team ? Those $ky commentators seem to think so. Now selection may be made easier if one of the batsmen fails in the meantime but what if there is no failure. Surely that is not fair and a player should prove his form first and not take a place for granted.

As I write this Ireland are being taken apart by India. Currently 58-8. Thought Ireland were better than this ?

Since everyone bar this writer, who has not watched a single minute of it, is too engrossed in the WC a few reflections on the wbw - white ball weekend that is.

Thought that the RL final between Hampshire and Kent was a good contest. Two of the least fashionable teams. As often happens win the toss put the oppo in who then proceed to post an unbeatable score. But actually closer than the score reflects and due to some fine run-outs.

Congrats to the ladies for their tri-series win. NZ are a very one-dimensional side at present - if the top two don't get enough runs the rest collapse like a deck of cards. England did not need to get out of 2nd gear.

Might have a few words come Tuesday and then the good news. Nothing from me for 8 days or more. Off to a country that does not AFAIK play any cricket (and not that good at footie lately )

Tuesday might prove interesting England v India T20, 17.30 start with footie boys starting at 19.00. For some, something will have to give, not me though as not a fan of T20.
Another 30 days before the test series start, no doubt the heat wave will end and the storm clouds will come rolling in, I hope I am wrong on the weather.
