Default Private Messages (PM) - basic How To

(note: i uploaded all screens double to have some back-up when a image gets lost, so then you know why they are all in duplicate ;-))

For those that could use a few images to see how the Private Messaging system on this forum works i made this small post, hope it will be usefull for someone.

Private Messages function like "local e-mail", it allows you to contact fellow members and exchange messages in private with eachother.

To access you Private Message Box you can use the link that is on the top rightcorner on almost all pages on VEF, there you find a line listing the number of (unread) PMs (Private Messages) you have an the link Private Messages:

Clicking on the Private Messages link will open your PM inbox:

In your PM inbox you will see your messages (when available) with the unread messages listed in bold.
  1. will allow you to switch from inbox with all recieved messages to outbox with all send messages
  2. by clicking on the title of a message you can open and read it
  3. by using the Send New Message link you can start with a new blank message

When you opened a PM to read it:

... and want to reply on it then simply press on the button, that will refresh the page to the message editor in which you can compose/write your reply:

Replying to a PM works the same as sending a new message only with replying some fields will already be filled in.
  1. in this line goes the membername(s) (maximum 5) to who(m) the message will be send, you can type the name and when you have javascript enabled autocomplete will assist in getting the name correct, when you see the membername in the autocomplete you can click on it to get it added in the "recipient field"
  2. subject line
  3. here you add your message, its simular to posting a reply on a thread
  4. when done submit message, the preview option can be used when composing, it will allow you to see how the send PM will look

Next thing to adress is maintenance, as maximum allowed number of messages that you can store is limited you will need to remove messages when you box gets to full:

... to remove check the small boxes to the right side of the PMs, that will select them, then select "Delete" in the "drop-down menu" and press the "Go" button that will list the number of selected items which it then will remove.

Last but not least you should know that there is a report button: on the top right corner of every PM which will allow you to report Privat Message abuse:

... when a PM is abusive or you want second opinion on a PM you recieved then click the button, type a note for us mods in the "report field":

... and send the report, we then will look into it and assist where needed or deal with the problem at hand.

Note: that all members will need 5 posts to enable sending PM to fellow members, this is to prevent spamming via the PM system, till the moment of reaching 5 posts you only will be able to send PM to forum staff.

Some more detailed info's that can be found in forum FAQ:

When still questions then ask.
