Was going to post it elsewhere till saw it bombed harded than Hiroshima was, or something. Hey you know what I mean
This jet black comedy
About a complete whackjob (No relation ) who messes up with his office crush , in a way only somebody who doesn't see reality all that clearly and hears voices could. Is bloody (Literally) excellent I think. Reynolds is terrific and balances innocent charm with raging insanity wonderfully. While Gemma Arterton is , oooooh boy. As perfectly put together as she is a delightfully decent actress. Include into the mix a ripely funny clever script plus deft direction , and how could it lose . Right On an eleven million budget this barely made four hundred thousand back Whereas I award it a deserved triple

"After the gun-ho fireworks of the second film they (the producers) have managed to go back to emphasizing the claustrophobic sense of creeping dread of the first film". Does anyone else feel this way? |

Discovered somebody else who`d never heard of it today !
How can a film this funny , this well written and with this amount of iconic characters fail at the box office and still remain mostly unseen by the viewing public
Other than 20th Century Fox are a right bunch of clueless bastards I mean This story of how previously uptight man changes his entire outlook after one hypnotherapy session is ruddy (Sorry for swearing ) marvelous in my book

Most everyone else seems to loathe this
Whereas
I can't help liking it. Having just streamed it. Yes it`s a bit of fluff. Is endearing fluff though. Charming even. Am a fan of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau anyway. Yet especially a fan of them teamed up. They loved each other stronger than blood brothers in unreal real life , and simply thinking about how much fun those two must have had on set already set me smiling before the film had begun. Walt plays a compulsively bad gambler who (Owing a certain mobster money) ropes (Cons) his brother in law Jack into going with him on an all expenses paid cruise. A cruise that isn't as Walt advertised at all. Still if he`d told the truth Jack wouldn't have agreed. Making it only more difficult for Walt to try and find and marry a rich widow, No I haven't used their characters names (Charlie and Herb), but then so what I`ll give it a decent cast , cute writing and adorable team up

Maybe ,
I liked this because knew it`d bombed and that people called it lousy. So went into it with expectations of only the worst. Now I`m not saying it should have been a success. But this well trodden tale about a global zombie-ish outbreak isn't too shabby and is worthy of a modicum of applause. Effects are decent (Especially after the Zombie-ish things mutate) and the acting very good. True the pivotal plot of angry neighbours is a little silly. Still there is a fair amount of pathos , the ending completed the characters arc and culminated in a tidy smidgen of redemption

Its a bit of a busted project to be sure, but there's way more acting talent in this one than any of the other Alien franchise, and Charles S. Dutton puts on a brilliant performance. Charles Dance is no slouch either, and there's a full complement of Brit acting talent on board. The "men forgotten on a prison planet" theme is a cool one, and original to this movie, I think . . . has been repeated many times since, notably in Chronicles of Riddick But its the intensity that I like. Even with all the film's faults, including a CGI creature that seems unfinished, and a battle plan that makes no sense, its a movie that holds your attention. Or mine anyway. |

Films you like that others loathe
Alright so the ending is kind of a cringe fest . How they disrespectfully disposed of grand characters Hicks , Newt and Bishop bloody annoying too. But apart from this I think it isn't that bad a film at all , overall . No, it doesn't anywhere close compare to the previous ones. Yet has a great cast , decent script and a fair share of genuine tension.

I watched the 1998 Lost In Space movie last night and enjoyed it as much as the first time I saw it. I still don't know why it was canned.
