Nice pictures NIN!!! I remember Zoom -9002 very well, but maybe still not too warm thoughts, as our guitarist bought one back then and after that our rehearsals turned to these nightmarish sessions where rest of us smokes fags when guitarist is "still searching sound". Yes, and Roland TR-505 still sounds good, It`s like "sound of the future today and yesterday", very unique sounds. I also recognised Zoom RhytmTrack-236 which might have some sounds as Zoom StreetBoxx-246, which I luckily bought just year ago, I still use it alot, very easy to program and there`s some good bass-sounds too.
Four years ago I bought this one : After few months of "learning" and drifting far away from spontaneous creativity to still waters of no-creativity I sold it and bought this: Works better for me and it still has four tracks, of course there has been far better and cheaper version of it available for some time too , but I wisely just squeeze my fist in my pocket and don`t give a shit.

Sh*t you guys, I've been on this thread for 20 minutes, and I'm drooling over the pics!!
Great pics and interesting stories Slowdriver & NIN. Well, you know what I mean. It reminds me of another point that's nearly always brought up around here, that time when you meet 'the ONE', and yer carefully-collected porn stash goes outta the door because you won't need it with HER!! Back to the music. I almost gave up playing guitar because the Mates all found the One before I did, and I ended up basically going to a folk club occasionally because no one played elctric anymore. And then one day in roughly 1980-(ish), I walked through a side street in my home town and came across a new music shop that had opened, and in the window was a Tascam Porta 1. I'd never seen or heard of the product, but just looking at it through the window and working out what it was supposed to do, I realised that now you could make music on yer own if you wanted at a price you could afford. I've never looked back, and my place looks at lot like NIN's. It's wonderful. Er, now back to the totty! |

Just having a rummage through the gear I still have left, and I also have the TR-505. It brought back some great memories of the first tune I ever really "wrote", a friend and myself stayed up all night working on the sequencer, programming the drum patterns and then disaster struck. At 4am or thereabouts, the batteries ran flat in the TR-505. We sat around drinking coffee and sweating profusely, waiting until such time as we knew a papershop would be open (this was before the days of 24 hour supermarkets) so we could get new Duracells for the drum machine. There was still the worry that all the drum patterns would go when we took the batteries out to replace them.
Fortunately, everything turned out fine and we managed to get the everything successfully down on tape. Sadly the whole kit (and the tapes) are now long gone, but it was great fun at the time

I had the Roland Tr-606, and for the life of me, it STILL has the best gated-snare sound I've ever heard.
I also had an early Yamaha sequencer, one with a floppy-disc drive, I think it was something like SQ1 Anyway both were stolen during a burglary, but I've still tapes that I made featuring the sounds. Wonderful stuff. cool: |

I too have been twiddling the musical knobs for the past few years. I have a Kurzweil K2000 v3 (synth/sampler), Akai s300xl (sampler), Access Virus B (synthesizer) and Korg Electribe mkII s (drum machine/drum sampler).

Jonno71, what is the Access like in comparison to the MS2000? Does it have a flexible modulation matrix as I mainly use my Korg matrix to get sounds that change over a period of time using the limited but still good matrix i.e. LFO2 into LFO1 pitch etc.

Cannot really comment on the MS2000 as I have never had the pleasure of trying one out. But in terms of V/A, the Virus B is outstanding. I can easily say its one of the best out there. An old friend of mine had a Roland JP8000 and until recently I had a Nordlead 2x and I find the Virus B just blows them clear out of the water, but then each synth has its own charactor. The Virus B is very versitle, flexable, but as I haven't had it that long I am only scratching the surface so far.
