Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (1974)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071519/

Shane Briant is a surgeon who takes delivery of dead bodies to use in his experiments, when he is caught he is sent to the asylum where Baron Frankenstein was sent years before.
The Baron has faked his death with the help of the seedy governor and soon the two scientists are making a creature using the body of a large malformed prisoner as the basis.
The creature has never looked as frightening or tragic when he wakes up with the brain of a Professor but realises he is trapped in a monstrous body.

The Living Dead Girl (1982)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084357/

A french movie so sofffisticated as you would no doubt expect

An earth tremor is felt in a crypt as thieves attempt a robbery, the quake disturbs some nearby barrels, one falls releasing a gas and it revives the corpse of Catherine Valmont who promptly dispatches the thieves then heads off to her old family home,a nearby castle.
The place brings back memories of her blood-sister Helene and a blood vow they made as children to be together even in death.
Helene meets Catherine after she has killed and fed on the stunning Patricia Besnard-Rousseau, who sadly only made two films

Helene takes Catherine to her own home and decides to help her out by luring victims for her to feed on

Plenty fake blood and poor effects and although there is some nudity it is not as erotic as you may have expected.

playing a couple of my old favourites on Blu Ray, just got these today.

Rawhead Rex (1986)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091829/

An American author is on a fact finding trip of Ireland looking into legends, his timing is a pretty bad as he visits just as a local farmer decides to move a large standing stone releasing a large angry creature once revered as a God by some. His family soon face tragedy at the hands of the beast, known in historic times as Rawhead and with or without the help of the local police and clergy he is determined to kill the beast.

That's a terrible movie based on a great Clive Barker short story, In fact it was this woeful adaptation that led Barker to direct Hellraiser Himself..

I do love bad movies though Mal and I've watched this many times and it has grown on me. If its shoddiness helped create Hellraiser then that's a big plus, in a negative way of course

My next old favourite I also got on Blu Ray is worming its way out of its lair soon

Would that be:

The Lair of the White Worm (1988)

IMDb:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095488/

Bonkers in parts - but a likeable flick, nonetheless....

Henry V (1989)

Trailer

In pre-Brexit England, King Henry "Call me Harry" of Monmouth or Henry V (Kenneth Branagh) gets the silly idea of conquering France. Actually, he's talked into it by two manipulative shavelings who tell Henry that he's the rightful heir to the throne of France and that the Salic law unjustly keeps the French crown out of his reach. What the two bastards, the Bishop of Ely and the Archbishop of Canterbury, really have in mind is the distraction of the young king from passing a bill that might confiscate property from the church. Followed by an army of nobles and paupers, Henry sets out to France where King Charles VI (Paul Scofield) lets him know that the crown may be his but only by the sword.

Kenneth Branagh sure worked his arse off to make what may very well be the best adaptation of the famous Shakespeare play. He proves himself as a very skilled director with a good eye for the right performers. No "modernisation" efforts are made as the film stays very true to the original language. The first time I saw this film was in the mid-90s and I remember it as a very dark picture but that's probably due to the quality of the VHS I rented. Even though I loved the film, I had no idea what the hell they were talking about, not even in the German-dubbed version. I guess I was too young for this heavy dose of Shakespeare.

I watched "The Shape of Water" (2017) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shape_of_Water - a strange film set in late 50's(?) Baltimore where a mute janitor meets basically "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" being held captive in the lab she works. Unlike that 1954 film, the lead actress in this film does disrobe and she has a pretty nice body. So Hooray for Boobies.

The difficulties of interspecies sex aside, I could not understand why the Russians executed their own spy - I guess they found out that he lied to them, but it was never made clear. I also felt sorry for Michael Shannon who seems type cast as the mentally unhinged White Male. Although, now since he got to play act with Lauren Lee Smith who unexpectedly pulled out a boob for him, maybe I don't feel so sorry for him.

Otherwise, not a waste of two hours and three minutes. I give it 3 of 5.

The Lando love interest - his droid - would have been funnier for me if she had some sexual characteristics, but that would have raised a roar from the snowflakes. So I didn't really understand his attachment to the droid as depicted. The deaths of numerous known actors/characters during this movie plot made it not so predictable for the non-Han/Chewie people, so I enjoyed the film. I am surprised that this film is said to have lost money at the box office. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solo:_A_Star_Wars_Story

Watched it the day before yesterday and found it...mediocre and bland. This was a film that didn't need to be made, a story that didn't need to be told. The plot eerily seemed like a couple of Firefly episodes meshed together.

I wish they'd finally move on to new characters and new stories that aren't connected to the old trilogy in any way, but that will be a long wait.

Well, you know the saying that Shakespeare is best enjoyed in its original Klingon. It loses plenty of nuance and innuendo in even the best translations.

Watched Ant Man and the Wasp yesterday and found it an entertaining 110 minutes. If you enjoy the Marvel flicks that are more comedic (Guardians, Thor Ragnarok etc.), you will like this one. Plus there's Evangeline Lilly. 7/10

After Lair of the White Worm and a brief intermission watching the first 8 episodes of series 4 of Gotham it was time to come down a few stars and back into obscurity.

The Iron Rose (1973) aka La rose de fer
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0126004/

A couple out on cycle ride stop by a large cemetery to fool around for a bit, before they know it night has fallen and they realise they cannot find their way out and it gets more surreal as the film goes on with brief appearances from a clown and a guy dressed like a pantomime vampire

On the plus side though Francoise Pascal gets naked
