Ok, I'm not an english native speaker, I can read it quite well but I don't know why, listening dialog of a movie is really painful for me: I can understand only 20% of them...

It's really a pity since one thing I like the most in classic is the plot

However, english is quite ok: I can try to understand a little. It becomes a real pain if the movie is in german or italian! In this case, I just try to find a nice sex scene. It's really frustrated because I really want to know the story...

So, finally, if I don't know any actresses in that movie and if they speak in German or Italian, I don't even try to watch that movie... I guess I miss some master piece of classic

What about you? Do you mind if you don't understand the plot?

I'm a native English speaker and still don't understand many of the rules.

As far as watching movies in a language that you don't understand well is concerned, it's actually one of the best ways to educate yourself on learning another language.

From time to time, I watch a movie I like with Spanish subtitles and repeat the sentences!

Learned a lot doing that.

It's kind of like my own Rosetta Stone!!!

I always liked classic porn for the plot, as well as the porn, as an English speaker, I can catch the drift in most western european languages, but as we drift towards chinese and eastern european languages, and tattooed extreme porn, I'm just glad I was there at the beginning.

Unfortunately not in my case. I really have trouble to learn any foreign language and - so far - I have some (poor) knowledge of English only. OK, I can read almost every Slavic, but in vivo... not a word.

Subtitles again? Legally sold porn is subtitled here.

In other hand I don't like syncronised/dubbed cover over original tone - nowhere. I believe up to 1970s Russian have practice to dubbed original tone but in way that one actor read all text - female, male... - without any change in rhythm, accent, voice...

The real solution to learning a foreign language is to actually go and live in the country for a year.

some of the great porn movies that we had over her in the UK back in the late 90's had the added confusion of being dubbed in german, but subtitled in dutch...!! confusing or what!! I hated hearing parts of the english speaking beneath the german too... (annoyed wail) ....

I can fully understand someone not understanding certain accents we have here or in the USA, as we sometimes struggle too... lol. (i'm visualising danny dyer 'cockneys', jimmy nail 'geordies', and penguin cackling 'scousers' here...lol)

When I watch porn I`m streaming it on my computer and watching a regular movie on my TV and just waiting for action to start in the porn movie , I started watching porn in the late 70s and the sound was never very good so I learned to watch porn with no sound , most of the porn sound tracks are so fake or not in sync anyway .
I have a question a little off topic, when you listen to music from an English speaking group , do you want an English version or one from your own language ?

It's at that point where the movie goes from the porn to the comedy genre...

I rarely watch hardcore porn (I mostly stick to softcore pics and use my imagination ) but nothing makes me lose my erection more than watching a hardcore flick and trying to not laugh at some of the absurd dubbing that is featured throughout.

My own language. However, if English (French, Italian...) version is significantly better from point of poetry-art - than English one.

English as lingua franca in one point gives some advantange to English-born speakers. However, this situation usually substantially deprives their intellection of other cultures - thus World itself.

That's right, it's the perfect solution for me. I prefer the original sound with subtitles.

However, it's very hard to find on the net, and lot of DVD you can officialy buy don't include them: I've imported some US discs (Hustler if I remember well), which had no subtitles . In France too, it's very hard to find porn DVD with subtitles.

Glad to hear that That's true, depending on the actor/actress' accent, I can understand more or less easily.
