Default Best/worst,fastest,slowest cars you have owned.

I know I had a few real "duds" that were absolute POS!& some that were really great cars.

First the worst,the POSs.

1)1967 Mustang 200cid 6 cyl/automatic-Rust bucket,slow,hard to start,winter/summer.A 2+2 fastback,that looked like a rocket but drove like a "led sled"

2)1983 Datsun/Nissan 310 4sp man., really a car that my ex owned but I ended up driving in fear she'd get killed in it.After the day she came home crying her eyes out ,in the house, with the cars gear shift in her hand! What went wrong, everything & then some, so better off
saying what did'nt go wrong,& that was'nt much!!Maybe the worst car I ever drove! The brake pads & shoes were smaller than some motorized scooters I worked on!That has to say something.Impossible to start when temps got close to 100*F.

3)1974 Mustang II,it howled loud when accelerating or decellerating! The dealer could'nt figure out why, after a dozen of more times in the shop. They gave me a Henny Youngman solution,"Just don't accelerate or decelerate much or hard!"I researched the prob on my own & called Ford & it had the very earliest type of Air Control valve or to GM a "diverter valve" that either cooled the cat. converter ,was vented to the atmosphere or injected air into the exhuast valves, for less polutants.Problem for noise? No muffler on the ACV when in atmospheric "dump" mode.

Then it died, quite a few times without apparent reason.Great on gas though,Fords aim.

4)1984 Pontiac Fiero, first model year.4 popper/4 sp. man, lacked power troublesome emission sys.Even after recall repairs I still smelled a burning in the rear engine compartment.Turned out that the elec. juction block to the ECM & all car electronics ,was plastic, & was thoroughly "singed" from placement too close to the ex. man.I put insulation on the junction "block" myself, it worked,no more smoking. After 3 reacall repairs by the dealership, did no good to stop the infamous Fiero burning! Timing geras sheared off @ less than 75K!One gear was made of a fiber resin!Duh!

Best cars next & one that will be a suprize, since one was the same model but a little newer & equipped with a different engine, & that, made a world of difference!

You have any horror stories to tell on your near lemons?Any great ones that you loved?

Fortunately my best cars are the one I have now, a 1998 BMW 328is, which is quick, corners like it's on rails, and is comfortable enough that I can drive it for 12 hours and feel fine afterwards, even as a fat old man. The one before it was great too, a 2001 Mustang Bullitt, one of the best sounding cars ever. Great V-8 rumble and crackle on the overrun. Nice retro interior, great stereo, and never had any mechanical problems. The worst was a '79 VW Scirocco. Broke down a lot, not much power, and more understeer than the world has ever seen.

1971 Fiat 850 sports coupe. It had a 903cc transverse engine mounted in the rear. It was low enough to look under semi-trailers, didn't come with a radio, and when going up hill on a city street I swear I almost got passed by a couple of 10-speed bikes. It had a nasty habit of throwing a belt that would then wrap around another belt - and I had to replace the head gasket a couple of times. The back bench-type seat was about 9 inches deep. But it only cost $2100 new and got great gas mileage.

Best car I've ever owner? Has to be my current vehicle, a 1998 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. Not very good gas mileage but, as far as reliability, I've only had one other vehicle that came close. And that was a 70's Toyota.

1A would be a 1976 BMW R75/6. Beautiful motorcycle that ran like a top and virtually never gave me a problem. The only problems I ever had with it involved the faring which, after a while, I took off and only used when I took off cross country. If I ever got the guts again to ride a bike I'd buy another in a second.

The most fun vehicle was a 1976 Chevy Camaro that I did all kinds of work on to make it a real sleeper. Basically, built it for cornering so I took it down about two inches, took off about 500 lbs., pulled the original 305 and put in a Corvette 350 that a friend rebuilt and put the horsepower up to around 500. Tightened it with Bilstein shocks, special A arms, coils and Michelin tires. Tore the original exhaust out and put in glass packs. Kept the outside almost stock so you'd never know what it could do.

Almost killed myself a few times in that vehicle. But boy was it fun.

- Best: 2008 Lexus SC430. V-8 in a small ( but very heavy) sports car, handled great in snow. The chix LOVED that car. Mine was pearl white with gold trim.

- Best 2009 BMW X5 SUV. Another V-8, car handled fantastic, zero problems, sold it for what I bought it for

- Best 1976 Lincoln Mark IV. 4-barrel 460 V-8 ( 5.1 MPG) had it up to 135 MPH and it drove like I was going 50. Curb weight was 7,000 lbs. Car had MANY problems, but the speed performance and amazing looks ( for that time) outweighed the headaches.

- Best 2000 VW Jetta VR-6, loaded, total pocket rocket, fun as hell to drive

- Best 2007 Subaru Forester XT. Cheap to maintain, real work horse, drives well in any weather condition, constant turbo made the car fast and darty, but really ate the gas and oil

- Worst: 1979 Plymouth station wagon. Constant electrical problems, leaf springs broke, real ugly clunky piece of junk.

- Worst: 1999 VW Passat Wagon. Total lemon. Anything that could have gone wrong DID go wrong, Total money pit. Will probably never buy another VW.

Worst car was my first one. This post tells the tale.

http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...&postcount=159

Best car was the one I had before my current one, which was a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird. Four door, 6-cylinder engine with great gas mileage, body stayed in good shape, only in one accident (a guy backed out of his driveway and hit my back door) and a real good car to drive.

Ok hold your hat on one of my best cars.I stated it was another of the same model mentioned that was one of the worst. An '88 Fiero, one of the best. This time GM came back & modified this car with a vengance. It had a V6 that could keep up with many V8s in larger cars.Body was tweeked to make it sleeker, engine was reliable, unlike the 4 banger I had.

The suspension was upgraded drastically, from the Chevette front end placed in the earlier on the pre '88s,to a truly performance type, Lotus designed one that let that vehicle handle like the sports car it was intended to be.Rear sus. had more robust springs & stuts.

Drove the car for 10+years,only minor problems, that are the usual replaced parts on any car.Brakes, struts, starter, alternator, absolutely no major engine or trans, or even electrical problems in 175K + miles! One of the best of the best!Even original PCM in it when I sold it!

Not mine but identical model year, color & engine...
