Perfectly put, and it sums up my experience too. When I was in my twenties and probably at my most sexually active phase, hardcore porn was pretty hard to find. Magazine-wise you got images of girls' mouths hovering millimetres above an erect cock, and video-wise you'd have to venture into the bowels of some seedy shop and weave your way past a crowd of strange-looking fellows, and then end up buying some overpriced rubbish that always failed to deliver.

My discovering that I liked hardcore porn was not the result of some progression. I liked what I found, and from that point on went to find what I liked. There will be those theorists who talk about the dark corridor or porn addiction, but I truly believe that this affects a small percentage of porn users. The rest of us are completely normal and functional... Wibble!

Porn is for the obvious. But a collection of porn is for something else - satisfying the collecting urge. A collection of vintage porn is for something else again.

True! I am a collector, and like to collect nice things. Model cars, model tanks, stamps, coins, football programmes... And pornographic material. There is something to be said about a well looked after stash of vintage porn, and it gives me just as much satisfaction as my stamp collection - on top of the fact that you can't wank over Machin definitives (unless, perhaps, you are REALLY strange...)

No one looking at this age from a couple of hundred years in the future can have a chance of understanding it if they don't have amongst their historical materials the porn that we enjoyed. In its own way, it is as important as Hansard.

This is why those of us who collect printed porn are akin to historians, and those of us who have notable collections are historical archivists. Especially when we consider all of the stuff that ended up in bins, torn up for fear of discovery by insane wives or girlfriends, floating around in the woods, or simply disposed of because all of the pages were stuck together.

To keep men from losing their f'ing minds and joining isis out of frustration. If I was 15 and wasn't allowed to look at a woman much less look at porn I'd want to join up too. Peace through porn!

It's an unnecessary luxury, the same way wine is an unnecessary luxury. You can live without, but it sure is good and life enhancing.

I was probably saved by going to an all-boys boarding school when I was thirteen. Having taken all of my cues from my religious (not extremely religious, but religious enough) mother, I must have looked and sounded like a massive pontificating dick to everybody else when I confronted my first "dirty and sinful" magazine full of "sluts and harlots".

Thankfully I got over it pretty quickly as the urge to wank overtook the desire to preach.

Had I been still stuck at home and turned into a frustrated teenager, I don't think I would have joined Isis though... That would have been like jumping from the frying pan straight into the fire. I'd have probably ended up in some religious compound deep in the middle of the Kalahari or something.

Absolutely agree that porn is life-enhancing though.

The purpose of porn. I guess the main use is obvious but I guess it can be used for all different types of things. Is there a thread on here about what we DON'T like about modern porn? Classic which for me is 70s 80s and now even a bit of the early 90s mos' def' is the best thus me being a member of this board.
