vikings also settled in the east of england

but more importantly the vikings conquered northern france, and intermarried with the french, they then became known as the normands

of course, the rest is history, ie 1066 - to the present day

why else do you think the english language has so many words for frozen precipitation ? snow, sleet, hale, etc
