As Bill Hicks once said...
Watching television is like taking black spare paint and covering you imagination in paint. Psssssssssssssssssssssssssssss - until you are no longer able to see clearly.
My thoughts- That little box in the corner of your room is responsible for more brain washing than anything else, ever. I never watch TV. I have one, but I use it only to watch DVDs - I have no connection for terrestrial nor Satellite nor cable TV. Kiwi

The reason I stll love Benny Hill is that he was simply a dirty old man - and completely unashamed of it.

I used to watch Benny Hill with my Dad when I was a young teen. It came on after the nightly news at 10 on a cable station from Nashville, TN. Mom hated it and would go to bed and leave us up to watch...lol.

Both were great performers true, but for me you can`t really compare the two as Sir Benny was and will forever remain the Governor of British entertainment comedy. Not only because of his variety and talent of breathing fresh life into old stalwarts , but that the man was just so damn likeable with that twinkle in his eyes, cheekiness of face and childlike manner which continued throughout his stellar career and defied his age. Also the man was a genius (Just thought i`d remind everyone) who knew he couldn`t please everybody so performed what made him laugh whether some of his sketches were a bit hit and miss or not. Plus for another thing he didn`t just break into America he busted it wide open, something the vast majority of British comedians have never done to this day.ITV was born from his sweat and did he ask for rise after rise ? , hell no. But they eventually shoved him aside without even a lunch meeting let alone a swansong
Still unlike most of us the great man will forever live on through his works , and here`s three to help jog that memory Date insults http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VFWimi1LHo Masterbrain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIrhB...next=1&index=4 Cinema Vintage Years: Passengers Of Love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H71hf...eature=related

I thought Spike Milligan and Monty Python were funnier, but the thing I miss about Benny and Kenny is that they were there to give the audience a good time. Many of today's performers seem to be primarily out to show off and demand applause. Its a subtle difference and I guess its a sign of the times.
And of course, being a teenager of the 70's meant I loved 'Hill's Angles'. They started out as 'Love Machine' originally and were probably raunchier at first. That long-haired girl with Asian features used to send me mad.

Benny and Kenny were the kings of comedy. When I think back to the comedy that was being shown in the 70s, I realise most if not all would never get made in a PC world ( no pun meant). Comedy like Till Death Us Do Part, and the mildly funny Love Thy Neighbour, no way would they get made today, more the pity when you think of the rubbish that passes as comedy today.

Lots of things dont get made anymore. Tastes change, we move on. It can be hard to get over the loss of our favourites from years ago, but if all we had was 30 years old then we would stagnate, socially, culturally, and politically.
