If I could thank your post twice, emexem, I would.
The trouble with the 'Iron Lady' (read - cold-hearted, pig-ignorant, psychopathic witch) is that she and her fawning cronies felt that the immediate concerns of the economy outranked the short- and long-term needs of the human beings that live in this country. They worshipped the tool for progress, and lost sight of the reason for it. We are now stuck with the bastard offspring of her political ideology (and I include all of the major parties in this criticism) who are making life increasingly difficult for ordinary people. The current government in the UK are making an appalling job of tackling the mess we now find ourselves in, and it's clear to see why they are not up to the task. The leaders are generally insulated from real world problems, thanks to their personal fortunes, and are playing politics as if it is a board game. This also holds true for the majority of economic powerhouses worldwide. Real, hard-working people are taking the hit, and you can see it happening left, right and centre. If I have to choose a leader for my country, I can't single out an individual that I can place my confidence in, currently. But I can tell you one thing - they need to have empathy for ordinary working people. |

I suggest Josef Ackermann (Deutsche Bank) for the chancellor-job. Once now bankers in Greece (Papademos) and Italy (Monti) been appointed as Prime Ministers, this would be only a logical step for for a successful Germany. He ruled us all the time anyway.
Monti was even employed at the renowned Bank 'Goldman Sachs'. A real untouchable. For if we have learned one thing, then that bankers are trustworthy intelligent people with a livable vision for us all. The know how it works. Don't worry. |

The person-cult and celebrity-circus other nations have for their leaders is something very silly from a swiss point of view.
Switzerland has only about 8 Million inhabitants, but our federal concil has seven members. Only together they are the head of state, the Bundesrat. Most of my fellow swiss people would struggle to even know the names of all seven people. |

That could be a promising candidate here in Germany.
At least he would be a honest sock chancellor. Last edited by Nobody1; November 28th, 2011 at 03:06 PM.. |

I think I should be leader. Everyone will be given a six month holiday with pay. All the fat cats will be executed by firing squad. And to fulfill the late Alex Higgins' pledge, I will erect beer tents and hotdog stands on the grounds of Stormont.

You couldn't slide a cigarette paper between the leaders of the main three parties here namely Cameron (Conservatives), Milliband (Labour) and Clegg (Liberal Democrats).
All three have reneged on manifesto promises so no surprises there then. Labour have no shame in attacking the Conservatives considering they royally mucked up virtually every policy field for thirteen years including the nations finances. The Conservatives say we're all in this together. It seems Cameron being a multi millionaire and the fat cats are in the SS Queen Mary while the rest of us are in a rubber dinghy bailing away desperately. As for the Liberal Democrats some of their policies on crime, immigration, border the idiotic. Indeed they all stand on each others toes so desperately do they crowd the middle ground. It's more about PR than policies. Indeed one can say since the forties this nation that is the UK after having been bled dry financially by the expense of two world wars has been led by nincumpoops for the most part. People with no idea at the time about what was best for the nation in future ie modernizing technologically ie updating shipyards post 1945, really investing in human resources. There still seems that lack of vision ie not moving away from an oil based economy in the seventies reinvesting in the rail network. It is disappointing considering the intellectual brilliance that has poured forth from this country despite a brain drain which has not been fulfilled in technological products which have instead been manufactured in other nations because of a lack of investment and until recently no clear or close co-operation between the universities and industry. Such examples inc.the optical disc, rubidium laser , the humble PC, various pieces of medical equipment, photobiological power generation and on and on. I am afraid instead we now lag behind many of our European neighbours in many areas and are still not quite there in terms of a knowledge based and science led economy. And with the clowns in the House Of Liars who between them have precious little expertise or indeed life experience one cannot hope for much. |
