I agree with everything you said except the Evangelical part. I don't really see Evangelicals voting for Hillary over Trump (with or without Pence).

Not to the degree that they ended up winning that group by. Remember he knows the Bible about as well as I know Mandarin in that group knows that were they going to go to Hillary? No, but they also could have stayed home like they did in 12' with Romney which was stated as a major factor in Obama's second term.

There was a very strong "Anyone but Hillary" group in 2016. Florence wouldn't have stopped them from voting.

that can go both ways. The anybody but Hillary crowd was also on the Democratic side and when she became the nominee we saw how many people stayed home. Evangelicals have shown if they're not on board with the choice of nominee they will stay home. The choice of Mike Pence was very important for Donald Trump's victory.

https://divinity.uchicago.edu/sighti...ans-vote-trump

I don't really remember the economy being that bad under Obama, but of course I was called an Obama ass kisser on the right wing gun boards. The evangelicals in the above poll seemed to have stated they went to the polls because of the economy and national security. The amount that stayed home when McCain ran vs Trump is about 10%.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.8a1263f3ed0e This poll is pretty interesting because of the high numbers of whites and blacks who voted for Obama but didn't bother to vote for Hillary. I don't think Democratic Party disinterest will be this high at the next presidential election.

My conservative parents (both white & in their mid 50s) BOTH wanted Carson more then Trump to get the nomination, I think I recall my 78 year old grandfather liking him also.

That aside, Trump is a life-long racist who could never bear a black running mate potentially stealing his spotlight, and the mere thought of spending many-a-day on the campaign trail side-by-side with a black man would probably make him physically ill.

I can agree with this. Nothing a conservative loves more than a member of a marginalized group that is able to parrot their ideas. They believe that having such a person adds legitimacy to their positions which is why some minorities, especially in media will adopt conservative talking points *cough* Candace Owens because they understand that conservative Outlets covet their pigmentation more than liberal / Progressive ones.

That movie on Ben Carson with Cuba Gooding Junior - Gifted Hands - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gifted...n_Carson_Story - made him look like someone you can trust - he is a brain surgeon after all. The media takes a few things he does and forgets all his good qualities.

So fuck the media.

Hopefully Ben Carson is a good brain surgeon. But his creationist views mark him down as (in the British venacular) a tosser - for American members, this means someone who stays in a lot.

Trump, McConnell, Ryan, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh done pissed all the women who hated Hillary off. The gender ratio of the next Congress will be a lot different.

There are other factors, too. A bunch of women teachers are winning primaries in red states because years of tax cuts for the wealthy have gutted the schools. It appears that the voters want their kids to be prepared for the future and the roads repaired. All this talk of tax cuts jump starting the economy has left working people less well off. People may grumble about taxes, but will pay when they see returns. Voters get really upset when they think that their kids are being short changed.

If somebody slaps your kid in the park, you might just kill them.
