'Churchill's Last Wartime Secret: The 1943 German Raid Airbrushed from History'
A bit long winded, mind you, i'm only on page 93 so far. No spoilers as to who won WW2, it's just starting to get interesting. I'll keep you guys posted on the outcome. |

At the beginning of the Korean war. the U.S troops were poorly trained and badly led. But they quickly learned what had gone wrong and once they got themselves sorted out. They gave the NKPA a beating.
Unfortunately the US high command didn't learn from this and Fcuked it up in Vietnam.

The Korean War tends to be forgotten, like a surprising number of other more minor 20th Century wars. (e.g. USSR v Poland and Greece v Turkey - and that's a just a couple of the 1920s). The best book on the Korean war I have read so far is 'The Coldest Winter' by David Halberstam, which I thought was just absolutely fucking brilliant. A book that knocked you off your heels, a titan of a book.

How Music Got Free by Stephen Witt ~ fascinating look at the fall of the music industry as it failed to adapt to the digital/internet age with a focus on the individuals that had the most impact.
Years ago I also read Appetite for Self Destruction by Steve Knopper, which was in the same vein but more about the entire industry's resistance to changes in formats. |
