How much porn is too much porn? (size of one's collection)
OK, well, fuck it, it's Trump's America now, women are sex objects (including his wife and daughter, who are incredible pieces of ass), I'm not going to fight it any longer. I enjoy porn, and I enjoy having lots of it on hand.
This weekend I bought a hard drive auditing tool to figure out the size and nature of my collection. I lost my last porn drive in March 2013, so this is everything I've downloaded since. Date of collection: March 20, 2013 Images: 3,505,869. 1.49 TB Video: 15,801, 3.08 TB Average # of images downloaded per day: 2,609 Average image size: 457 KB Average # of videos downloaded per day: 12 Average video size: 204 MB Average daily download volume: 3.48 GB Unused capacity: 3.4 TB Days until capacity exhausted: 1008 (August 28, 2019) Here are some representative samples (all vintage) Video: Taylor Wane in an anthology ("Classic Legends, Scene 5" surely from another film early in her career.) 204.4 MB http://k2s.cc/file/eeb586ee68bd7/cla...nds-scene5.avi And a representative gallery of vintage smut, all images 457 KB For the hell of it, I did some theoretical measurements based on some general assumptions: Combined slideshow length (5 seconds per image): 202 days, 21 hours, 15 minutes, 45 seconds Combined video length: 38 days, 15 hours, 13 minutes, 1 second Orgasm potential (one per 10 minutes): 34,778 Jerking off once per day, this equals: 95.2 years Cum (in L, assuming 5 ml ejaculation): 173.9 L in gallons: 45.9

My opinion.
You are too obsessed, get some girl and forget about it. Or get a job in a porn industry. |

Well, he's certainly ahead of me.
Nonetheless, I treasure my admittedly small collection of porn and have been pondering the best way to preserve my carefully chosen selections. Removable HD - don't trust. Ditto USB flash drives. Conventional Blu-Ray discs apparently only last 5-10 years as well. There is a company making a special drive that uses a long-lived archival Blu-Ray, but it's very expensive, and with it's special formats (larger capacity) I wonder if in years to come it might be as difficult to find a way to retrieve the contents from them as it is, say, finding a working Jaz drive or a Super-Floppy drive today to recover some beloved porn from the 90s, if that was your choice of medium back then. It's a problem.

Any effective backup strategy comprises multiple backups i.e. duplication. Any type of backup media can fail. Multiples increase the odds in your favor.
I backed up my porn pics to CDR fifteen years ago and they are all still readable but most of them are such poor resolution I don't bother. I have several terabytes of porn. A 1TB USB drive with pics and a 2TB USB drive with videos and both of them are mostly full. I don't bother with backups. It's porn. If either of them crashes life will go on. |

Backups
Yes, the size of the collection is a big concern in a "too big to fail" way.
I had one 4 TB partition of an external drive and backed that up to a second disc until about May, when I ran out of room. Then I just said to hell with it and began using both as main drives (restoring some full thread downloads from here, for eg. Best Perfect Tits, what a great thread), one for images only, the rest for movies and everything else (music, documents, etc.) Helps with the accounting. But that will need a long-term solution, as you mention. A long, long time ago, someone told me that the first rule of bachelor life was never throw out porn. Any of it. I have betrayed that rule many times (usually when I have gotten a new girlfriend or had a fit of conscience) and it's always cost me. As I said above, I've just decided to embrace it. Anyway, here is some random images out of my assorted folder.

I was looking at tape drives, which can provide a multiple-terabyte capacity, but a good tape drive is damned expensive - $1000 and up.
The other practical long term archival solution right now seems to be the M-disc, a special Blu-Ray disc. These can hold 50-100 GB of data each, but at 10 bucks a disc, they are not cheap either. If you've got multiple terabytes of porn to back up, you'll need a bunch of them. There is apparently also a company working on holographic discs, which would hold around 6 TB of data each to start, but little has been heard from this company lately, so this technology may be a dead end.

There is no such thing as "too much porn"!
I have nowhere near as big a stash as you guys mention, but what I have I enjoyed, and probably will again at some point. No harm in keeping it; you just might want to look at it some day. |

If you've got so much porn that there's some you've not looked at in the past 12 months, then you've got too much porn.

I tend to be picky about what I download and keep long term. So even though at times I may have multiple TB's of stuff its often trimmed down to a TB or so. For years I used to keep everything and rarely deleted anything. Then I decided I would only bother keeping stuff from sites that had vanished from the web as I wouldn't be able to get it again. Luckily most of the stuff I like is available and re-downloadable as their sites are still up and running. Most are also 10+ years old and have a big customer base so aren't going anywhere anytime soon. So rather than back up I would just sign up to a site or two to get the stuff again if my drive went down. It might be more expensive in the long run but it also means I can update my SD downloads to HD ones where applicable.

Practically speaking
I tend to be a completionist. Also, if I am into a woman or her look I am really into her. I like having very large-size slideshows when I wake up and I am absolutely craving Andi Sue Irwin, or Shannon Stewart, or bikini models, or cheerleaders.
As for videos, cataloging those takes a lot of work, just so I know where something is. "Hey, that video where Randy West and Sabre were on the couch and Sabre used the vibrator on Randy ..." — well I know that's in her folder, for starters, and I generally rename there. But for high-volume performers oftentimes it's just pick something and go with it unless I recognize the filename. There's a scene from an arty flick called Hard Edge where Faith Adams gives Julian a shoejob and it is ... whew.
