I have recently been browsing DVD sale sites so took the chance to look this up and have found that this episode is available as part of the anthology "Alan Plater at ITV", for example here https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...KL5A1OLE&psc=1 (quite cheaply too) should anyone want a better quality copy.

Further to my previous post, I've been amazed to find how great an extent of 70's and 80's TV is actually available on DVD including series referenced in this thread such as "The Main Chance", "Room at the Bottom" and "Hot Metal".
