Free Speech, Part II
It seems the erosion of free speech is everywhere; this time it's Clemson University. A man was stopped by a Clemson University administrator for praying on campus, telling him and another person that “this is not a designated free speech area,” and asked them to leave the area. The administrator, Shawn Jones who is the assistant director for client services, also called their praying “solicitation,” and demanded that they would need to fill out paperwork to continue. Clemson receives state and federal funding, and many see these restrictions as disregarding the First Amendment to the Constitution by limiting free speech to certain zones. The students, asked the administrator, “by that, you mean there are free speech areas on campus and that the entire campus is not a free speech area?” Jones responded, “that is correct.” The whole story and a video is here. You now need to fill out paperwork to pray on Clemson's campus. I'd ask what's next, but I fear the answer. My cynical self wonders what would have happened if these two were in muslim garb kneeling on prayer rugs...

(hmm, can't quote for the moment)
To be honest, i don't want to see anyone praying in public (keep that private stuff to yourself), it's a matter of good manners. Why do they have to be praying in public anyway? Do they need to show off how godfearing and religious they are? Or are they recruiting? Should it be banned? i guess not... Should people learn some frigging manners and discretion? Hell yes! Just wear a t-shirt that has some text on it, that's enough. |

I'm not against PC per se. At the end of the day political correctness is about trying to treat people decently.
IMHO, the real issue is that on the pro side it gets taken too far and everything becomes offensive and on the con it becomes an excuse to express bigotry and pretend it's free speech. Last edited by Sir Honkers; August 30th, 2016 at 12:21 AM.. |

It's the "free exercise thereof" which seems to be forgotten.

How many people here would get upset if they'd have to see muslims (yes, i'm taking the obvious example) praying everywhere? Bent over people on little carpets in the supermarkets, on sidewalks, on the beach, etc (you might even trip over them if you don't pay attention). I know i wouldn't like it. That said, i am not a fan of banning things either. Speaking of religion and soliciting: on my way home today i drove by 2 people standing on the sidewalk next to a very small stand with folders or books (something about "bible study"). they didn't have much success |

Anyway, here's a classic case of PC stupidity gone mad This is Nic Naitinui A very good Aussie Rules footballer, who is of Fijian descent. Last week a young boy who idolizes Nic wanted to be like his idol and dressed himself up in Nic West Coast Eagles team colors for a school thing, his Mum went one step further for her son and wanted to make him feel special by painting him brown .......... That was put on the family's Facebook page so proud the boy felt that he was emulating his idol......... But guess what happened next
