Alice Ernestine Prin (2 October 1901 – 29 April 1953), nicknamed Queen of Montparnasse, and often known as Kiki de Montparnasse, was a French artist model,nightclub singer, actress, memoirist, and painter. She flourished in, and helped define, the liberated culture of Paris in the early 1920s.

Her companion for most of the 1920s was Man Ray, who made hundreds of portraits of her. She is the subject of some of his best-known images, including the notable surrealist image Le violon d'Ingres and Noire et blanche.

It's 1929 and avant-garde magazine Varits has a cash crisis. To the rescue, Man Ray and his muse, Kiki de Montparnasse. John Baxter lifts the lid on one of bohemian Paris's better-kept secrets:

'It is said,' Jacqueline Goddard conceded to me circumspectly, 'that Man Ray started with pornography. And I have seen recently a photograph of Kiki's mouth on Man Ray's private parts.'



Beyond this detail the last survivor of Man Ray's models from the 1920s - and the one who perhaps knew him best - was not prepared to go.



1929 was originally clandestinely published in Brussels in 1929 in an edition of 215 and intended for private circulation.
Copies of the very controversial book, were siezed at the border by French Authorities so very few exist today.

Originally Posted 01-09-2013 - I wonder what it is about models and riots? Hardly have we gasped with excitement as the London rioters are sentenced to prison, including the model Shonola Smith, than we are offered further evidence that no one ever said that beauty equals brains.

Sophie Laboissonniere from Richmond, Canada is the former 2011 Miss Congeniality and Royalty award' winner at the Miss Coastal Vancouver pageant in Vancouver Canada. She was aspiring to become an interior designer. She is also a follower of Ice hockey, supporting the Vancouver Canucks.

She has just pleaded guilty to being a rioter. By doing so she got the 'breaking and entering' charge dropped. All this arose when there was a riot in Vancouver last June following the Stanley Cup final, when the Vancouver Canucks’ were defeated by the Boston Bruins in the cup. As well as being involved in the general rioting, she also accused of being part of a group that broke into the London Drugs store that night.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for May. Her legal eagle is quoted as saying that "She has received a level of notoriety that goes way beyond the offence she committed. She's stuck with that for a long time".

Kristen Johnston born in Washington, D.C. of a wealthy family. She was raised mostly in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, and spent some of her teen years as an exchange student in Sweden and in South America. She earned a B.F.A. degree in drama at New York University.

She made her professional stage debut with New York's Atlantic Theater Company, and made her feature film debut in 'The Debt', winner of Best Short at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival all of which brought her to the attention of TV .... her breakthrough was in 1996 when she got the role of 'Sally Solomon' in the TV series '3rd Rock from the Sun' ... she stayed with the show until 2001. She was later nominated for a Drama Desk Award as Best Supporting Actress and she has appeared in many TV shows and films since then (including 'The Flintstones') and is currently in the the show 'The Exes'. However its fair to say that nothing she has done since has garnered the success of '3rd Rock from the Sun'.

Since 2009 she has taught acting at New York University. She also mentors local girls from New York City on self-esteem issues. In 2012 Johnston released her memoir, 'Guts: The Endless Follies and Tiny Triumphs of a Giant Disaster', which has received positive reviews.

She has confessed to being a longtime drug user and alcoholic but is said to have been in recovery for five years. Her Drink and Drug addictions started while she was in high school when as well as drinking, she started stealing 'Vicodin' from her best friend who needed them for her migraines and stealing them from her mother, who had just had knee replacement surgery ... she has even admitted taking painkillers prescribed for her pet dog.

Her abuse led to a life-threatening case of acute peritonitis, luckily being in London, it cost her nothing for the extensive treatment that would have cost her a fortune in the US ... she had to wear a colostomy bag for a month to allow the infection to drain after a relapse. Despite this she started drinking and pill popping again before entering a rehabilitation centre in Arizona.

Originally Posted 01-17-2013. Now this is one of those posts where I guess I can stand to be corrected. I am of an age where certain modern 'celebrities' barely register in my conciousness, and some are therefore not 'A listers' to me, and Ms Mendes falls into that group. So if you happen to class her as 'A' list, apologies, but I have to call em as I find them.

Eva Mendes was born in Miami, Florida to Cuban parents, which apparently classifies her a member of a 'minority group' somehow. Anyhow, she initially had ideas to become a nun, but later attended California State University, Northridge to study marketing, which she dropped out of after a talent manager saw her photo in a friend's portfolio, and she determined on an acting career .... this entailed some elements of hardship, and she sold ‘Hot Dog on a Stick’ at Glendale Galleria Mall in California while studying acting under Ivana Chubbuck.

Her first film appearance was in the direct-to-video 'Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror' but as usual, a pretty girl finds breaks just a tad easier than plain janes, and her breakthrough role came when she appeared in 'Training Day' as the girlfriend of the main character. A career was underway, with a mix of Films, TV and Modelling.

She has had a modelling career since 1996 and was a spokes model for the 2008 'Campari' calendar and has gone on to be a spokesperson for a number of products .... she also has her own designer business with a home decor line, 'Vida', with a line of bed linens and dinnerware available in Macy's stores.

In 2012, Eva Mendes was featured in the PBS documentary 'Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide'. She visited Sierra Leone to speak with rape victims and raise awareness of the problems in the area.

• Mendes appeared nude in an ad for Calvin Klein's Secret Obsession perfume but as there was exposure of her nipples in the ad, it was banned from airing in the United States.
• In 2008, she received a 'Golden Raspberry Award' for 'Worst Actress' for her performance in 'The Women' (which very oddly is on film4 as I write this ).
• In 2008 Mendes spent several weeks at the Cirque Lodge addiction facility to address "some personal issues" believed to be substance abuse. She has said that she will never publicly disclose details of her condition because "I have to think of the pain it might bring my mother." However it was reported in the world press that she had an addiction to prescription drugs, and entered rehab after suffering a spate of blackouts.
• She now attends therapy sessions which have "enriched my life. I come from a family and a heritage where you don't really go to therapy unless you're crazy. I want people to know that that's so not the case."

Samantha Robson was born in England and attended the Guildhall School of Acting, and trained in Musical & Classical Theatre. Her first TV role was in TV 'Red Dwarf' but her breakthrough role was as WPC 'Vicky Hagen' in 'The Bill' from 1998 to 2001, and has appeared in other TV shows such as 'Murder in Mind'. She is a classically trained actress and has spent three seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company. She has also appeared at the Royal National Theatre alongside playwright Harold Pinter in a collection of his work.

Her first US film was her 'A Year and a Day' in 2004 and, and she has a small film career, as she has stayed in the US, living and working as an Actor/Producer in Los Angeles, California, where she produced Tim Robbins's controversial hit play "Embedded".

Table Dancing: Before working in television, she worked for eighteen months as a table dancer under the name 'Shelley' at 'For Your Eyes Only', a gentlemans club in Middlesex ... a fact that was splashed under the heading "Bill Star Sam's Arresting Past as a Lap Dancer", in the UK tabloid 'The Sunday Mirror' on 17th of May, 1998. It was reported that she earned up to £400 a night, dancing naked at the tables of City businessmen and Media Celebs.

She had to pay the club £55 a night to strut her stuff - then everything she earned was her own .... so the raunchier the better. Her former manager said that she even had breast implants to improve her figure. "You could see from a mile off that she was a trained dancer. She was always great value for money, whether she danced on stage or at the tables."

Home Movie: She was filmed naked on film in home video, which although this is hardly a 'Sex Tape' was still across the web and some tabloids. She plays along and flashes her breasts after being caught nude coming out of the bathroom.

Louise Weber (13 July 1866, Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine – 30 January 1929) was the creator of the French Can Can, who performed under the stage name of La Goulue ("the glutton"). She also was referred to as the Queen of Montmartre.

Shameless and outrageous.
Working in a laundry at age 16, she began dancing by borrowing garments left for cleaning by customers and going to the dance halls at night. She quickly drew attention to herself by dancing on tables, displaying the heart embroidered on her underwear, removing men's hats with her toes and, of course, drinking everyone under the table - hence the nickname.




Moulin Rouge
La Goulue was fiercely ambitious and the idea of being only one of the featured dancers at the Moulin Rouge did not suit her. After just a few years there, she left the Moulin Rouge to start her own dance hall.

But people didn't follow La Goulue, and her club was a dismal failure.
She next attempted to capitalize on her fame by traveling as a belly-dancer, with her own booth, in fairgrounds. But somehow, La Goulue outside the Moulin Rouge was just not what people wanted.



Decline
Following the closure of her show, La Goulue disappeared from the public eye.

Suffering from depression, she drank heavily and dissipated the small fortune she had accrued while dancing.
Alcoholic and destitute, La Goulue returned to Montmartre in 1928. Selling peanuts, cigarettes, and matches on a street corner near the Moulin Rouge, no one recognized the severely overweight and haggard former Queen of Montmartre. She died a year later (a stroke) and was buried in a Paris suburb.

On her deathbed in 1929, Weber asked a priest, "Father, will God forgive me? I am La Goulue."

She apparently made $1.6 million dollars in the publicity generated from the scandal, and claims that she was able to put her children through private school and buy a home near Beverly Hills. She calls that $60 trick at one o’clock in the morning on Sunset Boulevard, on June 27, 1995, "a blessing" that changed her and her children’s lives .... so no harm done then

Nicole Essignman is one of those little miss nobodies that only the need to fill TV channels produces (thank god!!) - So the TV gods invented "Reality TV" - which is to say they contrive some weird situation, televise it, and occasionally make talentless individuals quite rich ..... as for the rest, well they end up like Ms Essignman.

So after rising to 'fame' (in her eyes at least), by competing in one of those almost 'prostitution' TV shows, VH1's "Flavor of Love" (under the name 'Hotlanta' aka 'Nikky Jamz'), in which the girls compete to eventually have sort sort of 'get together' with some sort of 'star' ..... in this case rap star "Flavor Flav" .... (Who The F*ck? ) ... she was eventually dismissed in the 9th episode after Flav allegedly heard rumors that she was only in it for the cash (does he think its his charms?).

So back to the day job ..... mother of three, working as a dental assistant, but still dreaming.

January 2010, arrested in Georgia USA .... initially for an undisclosed act of violence, but as the press pick up, it transpires that its for ' two counts of simple battery and one count of cruelty to children' .... which these days could be a simple slap and a scolding (we live in strange 'PC days' .... but not on this thread )

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office told press enquiries that she was arrested in Atlanta and was in custody for one day before a company called "Bond James Bond", helped her front up the $2,500 bond .... can't make this up if I tried. as usual I have no idea what happened afterwards.

However she issued this statement in February 2010 which I make no apologies for reproducing in full as it made me laugh out loud - on several layers:

I want to apologize for the nightmare this has caused my family and i want to apologize to my fans. I feel like tiger woods…stay away from my family…thats the truth though.

I was arrested in Cobb county for two counts of simple battery with harm and one count of cruelty to children in the 3rd degree. I am not able to release details due to the fact that it is under investigation. I will say that i got into an altercation with an individual during the exchange of my youngest son. I was waiting outside in a vehicle while my mother went into the home invited to get my son. Me and my father heard my mom screaming when she came out the door one individual had ahold of my mother and the other had my mother in a headlock. I did what any other individual in my shoes would have done…i defended my mother and stood my ground.

In Georgia when a minor witnesses the incident it is considered cruelty to children in the 3rd degree. I still believe that violence is not the resolution to conflict, however I was in a situation that I did what I had to do.

Don’t start no wont be no.

The system however is set to where you are guilty until proven innocent and i will have my day in court which i am looking forward to getting this all taken care of. I dont do drama, im a lover not a fighter but when it comes to my paper, my family and my children i do not play any games.

I am Hotlanta, i am going to continue to put on for my city,i am going to continue to make a difference in my community,i am going to continue to change lives and continue to pray for strength through these trials and tribulations. Its funny how someones success brings pain sums up this whole situation.

My boys i live for everyday, i would die for my boys,i would kill for my boys that doesnt make me hot-mess hotlanta that makes me a mother.

To anyone reading this that is planning on being successful even if you have to take the sacrafice of kissing Flava Flav to do so….always keep in mind that once you put yourself out there, you will always have people in your buisness, you will have to change your life for privacy and you will always have people saying things about you that dont know you…brush em off….let your haters be your motivators and put that motivation towards turning your dreams into reality.

Im a reality star and no one knows the actual reality of mine.

Kari Anne Peniche was born in San Diego, California in to a Spanish /American family background. She attended a modeling class when she was aged twelve, which seems to have been a pointer to her career path.

Anyways, she attended Portland Lutheran High School in Gresham, Oregon, where she was also a cheerleader .... She later attended Portland State University and UCLA .... But every sign was pointing to the traditional route of the Beauty Queen and Modeling as her stepping stones to the 'Celebdom' ladder.

Aged sixteen she won a six week contract to model in South Korea, and was later invited back for another six week contract when she was aged eighteen. In 2002 aged eighteen she entered and won the Miss Oregon Teen USA pageant .... She also competed in the Miss Teen USA 2002 pageant but did not place. However the following year she represented Oregon in the Miss United States Teen pageant, which she won

She has since gone on to host 'Xtreem', a Seattle-based cable television program featuring local bands and extreme sports, and the 'Boom Boom Huck Jam event'. She has also branched into acting with a small role in 'Small Change', an independent film produced in Seattle. This has led to appearances in other movies and TV shows. She also branched out into fashion when she launched a line of bikinis called "Strung Out" at Portland Fashion Week.

As you might guess .... the Oops moments start occurring about now .....

She was stripped of her Miss United States Teen title after appearing nude in Pl*yboy magazine while still in office so to speak (a real 'No No' in the beauty pageant world) .... Strangely she claimed that there was nothing in her contract about not doing nude shoots, and since the issue did not hit the news stands until after her reign had ended, she did not think there would be an issue ..... no doubt her legal weasels looked into the matter, but she didn't sue.

In an interview with Steppin' Out magazine, Peniche claimed that she was sexually abused as a minor but whether this was at home or related to her modeling work is not clear .... certainly no police involvement was mentioned.

In 2006 she was engaged to an American pop and hip hop singer Aaron Carter ... he proposed on stage after they had only known each other for five days, and she had dated his older brother ..... they called it off six days later .... go figure, as our American visitors might say.

In 2011 she married one Justin Williams but the couple was only married for four months before Williams filed for divorce in July 2011 while she was pregnant. Williams asked a judge for DNA testing because he wasn't sure if the baby was his or not ..... I can see his point.

She then had the celebrity tape out on the web in 2009, when a home video was posted on the website 'Gawke'r that showed her naked with married couple (and actors) Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart. All three are naked, but does not show any sexual acts. She blamed this leak on Mindy McCready ... McCready is denied the allegations but it was the subject of a public dispute between Peniche and Singer Mindy McCready during their time on 'Celebrity Rehab' ... This dispute came to light when Peniche revealed that she was worried that her 'Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House' costar, Mindy McCready, who moved in with Peniche following 'Celebrity Rehab', had access to sensitive materials on Peniche's computer. (It was later reported that the two argued over money and an accusation over a stolen hard drive containing the nude video featuring Peniche, Eric Dane, and Rebecca Gayheart]).

In November 2009, she appeared as a patient on the VH1 television show 'Sex Rehab' with Dr. Drew, a documentary series about the treatment process for sexual addiction ... she claimed to have slept with hundreds of men. As if that wasn't bad enough, she then behaved badly on the show, with aggressive and erratic behavior: verbally abusing the staff and other patients etc etc ..... she refused treatment for these issues and was evicted. During this eviction process, she made suicidal gestures and became abusive toward the staff, throwing a container of water onto a technician.

But in a change of heart she contacted the show and showed that her aggressive behavior during Sex Rehab was derived from drugs she smuggled in a teddy bear, not detected during drug testing because they were masked by her medication for ADD. She showed the doctor the crystal meth she was using. She was shown returning to the Pasadena Recovery Center at the end of that season's fourth episode. And although she did punch a cameraman and again exhibited some problematic behavior, including conflict with the staff and other patients, as well as violations of the facility's rules she completed her second stint at the Center.

Unfortunately, the tale just goes from bad to worse .... she joined the cast of 'Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House', but in the first episode, she became abusive toward the sober living manager and tested positive for methamphetamine. As Peniche was being filmed returning to her home she punched a cameraman in the eye, and was evicted from the sober living facility. A few days later, the residents refused to accept her return and she left amid criticism by Heidi Fleiss.

And to think, I thought this was going to be quick tale of title stripping, after clothing stripping
