Default Of porn star names, great and small.

Something that has long puzzled and, to an extent, confused me about the pornography business is the changing of names by its stars.

For example... everyone who's been around for a while knows Seka, Vanessa Del Rio, or Christy Canyon. They may have used alternate names at some point but the vast majority of their work has the same name, every time.

So what's the deal with porn stars who either switch names every other week or those who use one-word names or borrow names from others?

For example... I had just found out the name of a porn star whose identity had eluded me for years... only to discover she was using the exact same name as a Playboy playmate. Or a favorite of mine, Candy Connor, must have a half dozen names she's gone by - Candy Connors, Candy Cash, etc. Another favorite, Tessa, went only by the one name. There's several Tessa's already out there.

So what's the deal with these names? Why make it more difficult for fans to find your magazines or movies? And how come in some magazines they change the names of porn stars... like I have a Hustler with Keli Stewart in it but they called her "Mary" or some such thing.

Someone please explain. I've always wondered about this.

Thanks!

I think there are a lot of reasons. Photographers shoot the girls, and want to sell the pix to as many different magazines or websites as possible, so they keep changing the names so they can make as much money as possible off the same pix. I don't think the model has much to do with it. Once they reach a certain fame/popularity and get signed by a company like Wicked or Vivid and start making movies, then it is in the best interests of the company, and the model, to be known by just one name.
