I do have quite an unusual name - damn, there's something else I've let slip - and the actual members of the forum are only a fraction of the people who potentially could view it (although how many non-members ever look beyond the porn to the discussions I don't know). And if you wanted to collect facts about a member, a Google search wouldn't be limited to 500 hits like the vBulletin one is.

Never met any VEF member but I'm frequently exchanging messages with some members, know their real names and even saw their pictures (as they did mine). No, we were not exchanging nude pictures. My real name is Norbert (maybe a mistake by making it my screen name on a board), I turned 28 last Sunday and my tastes in movies and music are well known too. My political views are also not kept secret. So, if anyone here knew me in real life (without knowing it) he would recognize me.
Despite not being a very communicative person in real life, I would like to meet some folks here. I consider some of them my 'friends'. Most of them don't live round the corner (USA, UK, France,...) but it's not impossible.

That works if you are called John Smith, or if your internet activity is quiite confined...

When I google my name, the majority of the entries in the first 50 pages or so that come up actually refer to me, going back for over twenty years (i.e. pre-www). Would not be very hard to figure out which of that material is someone else.

However you are right that anglicising the name would make a huge difference ...

Although I've never met anyone here in person there are some members here that if they are half as much fun in real life as they are here I know I'd have a great time. Although I've never revealed my real name I have disclosed I live in Southwestern Ontario and I've since found out there are several other members also living in and around the area. I like the idea that someone I may see on occasion, and yet not know, could be an 'online' friend.
