I suspect there is always both a novelty effect, and a 'new kid in town, in good humor on vacation, attracts favorable attention' factor.

the only exception I found to most of this was in Hawaii...we were not really genuinely an item from the get-go, as beautiful a spot as the place itself is..that's the main reason Florida is more of a keeper than Hawaii is for me...even though I have both state-flags and license plates on my walls as souvenirs..

no, we are not ALL idiots, and neither are they.
I interpreted it as being a comparo,kind of playful, their idiots vs ours.Right?

ie...we both have a large and expanding welfare/trailer-caravan trash/methhead class...we both probably have a contracting functional middle-class and maybe functional decent working class. Their middle-class may have taken a bigger sock than ours did as they suffered worse from GFC...but social currents and trends are about the same direction, is my reading of it.

And things are about to get bad here, next decade +, is also my prediction.
--We are facing an employment crisis, we export all our unskilled and manufacturing jobs to China or the Third World, then we import the Third World's peoples and instal half of them on our ever-expanding ever more generous welfare system (which is already unsustainable and financed from borrowing)
--an astonishing power-generation crisis (thanks to Greens/Socialist "warming ' "renewables"zealot dimwits and both sides of politics propensity for listening to them), South Australia is already experiencing serious blackouts at peak load in summer, Victoria is about to switch off Hazelwood station which is 20-25% of state generation capacity, we don't even have enough gas to prevent prices rising sharply, even though we are one of the world's biggest gas exporters which is sold for virtually nothing per Kj compared to domestic market prices.
--a law and order/prisons crisis, again, sold and serviced by the "Progressive" side of politics. We don't put anyone much in jail any more, and those we do have there apparently need to be allowed to riot and destroy the prison at will, while governments stand and watch apparently helplessly.
---and a AuD500billion government debt, which seems set to either creep or leap towards 1 trillion, especially if as seems likely, Shorten and Labor/Greens return to government less than 2 years from now.

We have never recovered from the lunacy and folly of electing arch-fuckwit Kevin Rudd in 2007, and the ensuing Rudd/Gillard years.
We have drifted rudderless ever since.
