It's also one of our truly authentic English drinks as well. The chemical sub-alco-pop crap sold in supermarkets has just about nothing to do with real Perry (or Cider for that matter) but it's an effective marketing ploy to push a mass produced imposter. See also 'Cidre' from Stella and that awful Magner's witches piss - both absolute travesties aimed at idiots that believe an amber tinted marketing campaign to entice gullible folk into drinking garbage. Ahem. My tipples of choice are: Traditional French Cidre - light sparkling and delicious - you can get it bottled over here - M&S, Waitrose and Sainsbury will sometimes stock an authentic variety. Bitter: current favourites -Adnams 'Ghost Ship', Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord' and Woodforde's 'Wherry' Short: Glenturret - a lovely smooth malt I'm also partial to the odd Calvados or Armagnac - happily working my way through different producers... Salut! |

The Winebeavis Manhattan Pretty simple really. Every you need is in the first picture. But, even then, not all of that is really necessary. 1. Good Bourbon or Rye Whiskey. I like Bourbon. I'm using the Knob Creek 50% ABV 2. A decent Italian/Red Vermouth. Hard to get a really good one in the U.S. 3. Some Angostura bitters. 4. A shaker/strainer --I used a glass with a strainer. Whatever works in a pinch. 5. Ice. I use two parts whiskey with 1 part vermouth. Specifically, 1/2 cup to 1/4 cup. A couple of dashes of bitters. Pour over ice, stir strain. Drink. Nothing better after a hard day of banning spammers.

Up to a twelve-pack worth of Coke Zero every day in the summer. Aspartame? Diabetes in a bottle? Water weight gain? Kidney damage? Teeth rotting? Bones decaying? Maybe I am risking all of the above, but it sure tastes good to me.
Red meat, including steak fajitas, beef jerky, and burgers every now and then. Alcohol, from Budweiser to Bacardi 151 with its ~75% alcohol content. |

Living in Oregon, there is an abundance of craft brews available. My usual is Widmer Bother's Hefeweizen, it's a wheat beer, served with a slice of lemon. Incredibly refreshing on hot summer days. Usually accompanied buy a shot of Jose Cuervo tequila, I like the burn of the Jose, really good tequila is too damn smooth for me and just not the same. I also don't care for chilled tequila, which seems to be the practice now in most taverns and bars. I'm very fond of single malt scotch, Oban, Glenfiddich and Glenlivet being the three in my price range that I enjoy. I prefer it with ice, I like the way scotch mellows a bit as the ice slowly melts. I don't get truly hammered anymore, my body has too difficult a time the next morning, but I do enjoy that warm glow of a good alcohol buzz from time to time.
Oregon voted to legalize marijuana last year, and on October 1st it became legal to buy for recreational use at all of our many medical marijuana dispensaries. Recreational users, those without a medical card, can purchase up to 7 grams at a time. It had been many years since I smoked, having become too much of a hassle to get. I'm 54 and just didn't know anyone who sold it anymore, and I'm not much of a gardener, but on October 1st I was standing in line to make a purchase. It's all tested by a lab and each strain's THC and cannabinoid percentages are listed. They usually carry about 20 different strains, broken into a 3 to 4 tier price range, top shelf being $15-$17 a gram, the lowest in the $5-$8 range. I make a trip to a local dispensary about once a week now. Last edited by hound dog; January 13th, 2016 at 05:26 PM.. |
