This thread brings back memories as a kid. I remember sneaking out of my bedroom at 2:00am and watching the British Sci-Fi "U.F.O." and then after that Benny hill came on. This was in Arizona, so BBC only came on after 2:00am.

Two episodes always stuck in my mind, one was the war between the street sweepers and the sign painters, I laughed so hard I woke my parents and had to hide in the fireplace until they went back to bed. The second episode had Benny doing one of his musical numbers while walking from girl to girl, each girl was standing on a circular pedistal at different heights, all wearing negligee. Benny is getting near the end of his song and he ends up next to the second to last girl, who happened to be on the tallest pedistal, as he looked up at her the camera also panned up and she was wearing completely see thru bra and panties, Benny stopped, quickly tossed out the funniest damn limerck I ever heard and proceded to finish the song. Years later I read that producers and stage hands regularly tried to do stunts like this to see if they could stump Benny but he always seemed to be able to make it even funnier with his quick wit.

Scorpion the BBC wouldn't have showed Benny Hill because it belonged to Thames Television, part of the ITV network, the BBC had him in the 50's and 60's before he was snapped up by ITV for colour tv. My favourite gag was Benny in bed ill and his wife(think it was Patricia Hayes) saying to him do you want the Night Nurse(at that time this was a thick tasteless gloop that you took to help you sleep and get rid of shivers, aches and pains-believe me it was disgusting) and he keeps saying no, no, I don't want the Night Nurse. The gag ends with his wife opening a door and talking to a scantily-clad busty nurse saying "He doesn't want you sorry" to which Benny turns to camera and curls his lip up and looks pained! Genius!

I also remember one very memorable dance sequence with Hills' Angels where it starts off in a gymnasium and some of the girls are in lingerie bedwear and at one point I swear I saw a flash of something bushy-luckily for me I had recorded it and I went over it with a frame-by-frame movement and yes there was a quick flash of naughty hair. Not seen it since.

I appreciate peepcreep making the L.E. screen test available. I've always thought her to be the most beautiful woman to ever grace a telly screen and was fortunate to see her in a few plays during the 1980s and 1990s. She was absolutely stunning and a very talented performer.

Can you tell me the original source of the screen test? I would like to acquire it if possible. The sound on my download did not work. Also, is that all of the screen test that is available anywhere?

His disappearance from prime time had nothing to do with PC (whatever that is) or the alternative comedians, rather, the hard headed business people who ran ITV particularly, simply didn't see him as an audiance draw anymore. The mainstream moved on. You only have to watch such shit as 'My Family' to see where it moved on to. The so called 'alts' only gained mass appeal when they blanded out their material.

Red Herring .This was from Confessions of a Pop Performer 1976 where Timmy Lea played by Robin Askwith was dressed in Scuba Gear and making love to Maggie Wright while party goers watched through a one way mirror

As a fan(atic) of Benny Hill (and especially the Angels), your memory isn't quite as bad as you think. In the eighties, there was the Unexpurgated Benny Hill, in which there was actual nudity, albeit mostly T&A. I originally viewed these episodes on Showtime, and a few were later available on VHS; but from what I've been able to find, all have since been pulled from distribution.
I'm hopeful one of you enterprising people will prove the last to be incorrect.
