I'm sure there are to be more as Trudeau is emulating Chancellor Merkel, and Calgary has just passed "Islamphobia" hate-speech laws.

Hmm well I did say that Leadweight didn't stand a chance but I doubt anyone saw this coming, apparently it is not just for the reason she gave, only getting 84 votes whilst May got 199, it was also to do with the abuse she received after her ill-advised interview with the Times reporter Rachel Sylvester. Surely she knew she was being recorded? Anyway it looks like we get Theresa May as our new PM - I just hope she doesn't bring back that idiot IDS(Ian Duncan-Smith) or maybe she can shove him into Wales or N.Ireland as their secretaries. And what of Boris? Culture, Media and Sport perhaps? Or out into the wilderness? We shall await things on Wednesday/Thursday.

I believe Iain Duncan Smith was backing Andrea Leadsom, so hopefully that's blotted his score-card:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36692057

However these days, who knows?
I still cannot believe that Leadsom, who once made a speech calling for people who work in small businesses to have no employee protection at all, was so close to possibly becoming Prime Minister (before verbally shooting herself in the foot).

These days, I think the sanest place is here on the VEF...

Anyway...an interesting chart showing the number of unelected UK PMs over the last 100 years (but I'm really happy that a certain Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill did back in 1940):

Devius, we do not elect the Prime Minister! We never have, the election is not about who is going to be PM, it is about which party we feel is best to lead the Nation. In the case of the PM, he, or she, is chosen by their own party. Only in the case of Gordon Brown, when the Labour Party had no input to his coronation, has a PM been put in the job without being elected by his own party.

We are not the US, we do not elect our PM. So not winning a general election is irrelevant!

Hypocrisy is totally irrelevant as well it seems.

http://www.cityam.com/245219/incoming-prime-minister-theresa-may-accused-gordon-brown

Incoming Prime Minister Theresa May previously called for Gordon Brown to hold a snap election when he replaced Tony Blair saying he had "no democratic mandate" and "running scared of the people's verdict" for failing to call an election.

Not that I'm a Labour supporter, but I do think there's a need for a decent opposition party in a what passes for a democracy. And with this in mind, does anyone seriously believe that Angela Eagle is any kind of improvement on Jeremy Corbyn?

The US people does not elect its President -- the Electoral College does it. None of the US Administration is elected either. They are selected by the President, and the top people confirmed or rejected by Congress (It may be just the Senate, but I can't remember)

Have you ever had one of those mornings when you are trying to sort out something and no matter what you do nothing seems to go your way. Take me for instance. I've been trying to get Parcelforce(Royal Mail Parcel arm) to send me a parcel sent from Australia. I find that because the customs form wasn't filled out properly by the sendee(I had no idea this was coming btw) that it has incurred a £28.42 fee. I have been trying to get a reference number, which you need to input in order to pay the fee, for use on their website. So far with endless e-mails and a phonecall I was promised that as soon as it was scanned it would be placed under 'Parcelwatch'(otherwise it would have been sent back to Australia) and today I checked and it is being 'held' and under Express 24. I've not received any letter with a ref no and I have just e-mailed them again to find out what is going on. Parcelforce, more like ParcelFARCE!! All this because my friends' cousin(who had looked after me in 1993 when we went there for a trip) wanted to send me a surprise 50th birthday present, which is now ruined!

The very nature of adversarial Politics (possibly even politics as a whole) invites hypocrisy though, you'd be hard pressed to find any politician who had not done a volte face at some time. It's common practice to decry the Government whilst in opposition and mimic them when you assume power.
No party has earned the right to throw that first stone.
