Julian (Joe) Bennett on the spirit of cricket. I wasn't sure until the last ~half/third, so perhaps worth persevering?

This disparity in revenues is true in all sports, last year the boy played for Fiji against England at Twickenham, the RFU made £12million, they gave Fiji a total of £250 thousand. Patronisingly termed a 'special payment'. The England players received a match fee of over £12000 each the Flying Fijians got £400.

During the World Cup warm up, the Flying Fijian Squad were expected to join the Squad in Fiji and take part in the Pacific Nations Cup, it lasted a total of four months including the World Cup, the boys had to make their own way to Fiji, paying their own airfare, and several took great delight in saying it was the first time they had been on Fiji duty and broken even, they were told to bring plenty of money with them by the way.

buttsie argues his point well and I use this to illustrate the reality for smaller nations, who are expected to perform at the same level as the top table, but change is desperately needed, especially with the home team wins scenario, and the huge spending of money the game just does not have!

In contrast to the punishment handed to the Australian players, ball tampering will still be encouraged for the women's teams.

I don't know if there are any saffer posters here. But never beaten us on their home soil since returning to international cricket. It must be extra special for SA to not only beat us, but host the series that brought down Australian cricket???

The county cricket season has started and doesn't seem to have evoked much interest. The early season table seems to be skewed by draws created by washouts or flat pitches. It seems like the championship will be won by a team with "results" pitches (eg Somerset) while staying the right side of the ECB.

To create more interest i suggest:

1) Rather than most games starting on the same day, stagger them a bit. Just as in the IPL where we can see a different game every day, if the counties spread there games we could we could see more teams.

2) I don't know how common this is but yesterday I was able to see a live stream of Notts vs Hants on the Notts website. It wasn't great coverage, one camera from fine leg, more akin to being at the match.

You never know, someone in authority might see this post.

The problem is the summer is full to over flowing with cricket, next week the one day cup starts after the current round of county matches finish on Monday.
Most of July & August is the T20 blast and the final round of county matches starting at the end of August. If you stagger the start day the cricket season would have to run into late October for it to work.

As most counties rely on the money from the pyjama game, I can only see a diminishing county structure with the possibility of a three tier league or counties only play each other once within the current two division system, either of which would also save counties money.

Somerset have already had a better season than last! Sad news about veteran Marcus Trescothick who has broken his foot, apparently he was prepared to bat yesterday if needed. Fair play thought he is 76!

wiki says born Christmas day, 1975, = 42.
Perhaps you're referring to his career of 76 test matches?

A touch of wit! He has just been a great servant of Somerset, and but for his mental health problems would have played many more tests!
