I remember maybe twenty or so years ago camping under the stars at Big Bend National Park in Texas. Upside down or not, the nightsky was impressive!

How can 'going insane' be worse than being on another planet where you potentially have either crushing gravity or no atmosphere?

Come to think of it I may just have described life in Tasmania in those last two points...

Q. What's the difference between Hobart and yogurt?
A. Yogurt has an active culture!

Despite reading about it I still don't see why the Southern Cross (crux constellation) is so important as to be the main representation of the Aust (and NZ) flag?

https://www.australianflag.net.au/in...d=84&Itemid=66
https://www.theguardian.com/australi...the-union-jack

I much prefer the coat of arms.

(Don't know why i can't post the image here that I copied? any suggestions?)

Edit: thanks to Estreeter.

I'd rather keep it as is, including the Union Jack

But if we were to change I'd like plain and simple ....

But I was wondering why have stars at all? Some flags have the sun as it is the most significant thing in the sky. But stars? I'm sure a lot of Aussies couldn't point out the Crux constellation in the sky. Is it that significant in Aussies' (or Kiwis) everyday life?
