Which are the most violent , spooky or freaky films you've ever watched ?!?

Yes it`s another damn thread

Hey if someone , anyone thinks this is a thread to far just contact me and i`ll delete it.

The reason i have started this one is today it`s been made apparent thanks to the media that this nation of ours is considered the most violent in Euroland , now me i don`t know if that`s true or not. But i`ll tell you one thing it certainly is the drunkest , and i`m not just speaking for myself either

Ok Ok , the thread

Well as the title suggests this is about the most violent films you have seen , see i want to hear about them. I want to know if you felt the violence was justified or unnecessary. Plus if you can be arsed i also want to know if the violence you watched had any negative effect on you . Because that`s what is usually said in the media , you know that such a such a violent film warped the minds of a previously innocent soul who viewed it then went out and went on a swirling machete mayhem spree !

Hmmm i`ll go first then (No not on my spree , it`s way too warm)

This for me was steeped in negative effect ,as i found the violence depressing and the comic deaths more deliberately crass than thought provoking. Telling you if it hadn`t been for RD`s cameo at the beginning i`d never have stuck with it.

Weird thing is that film is often put in the same category as this one

Which granted has similarities of violence but for me at least they give a completely different effect , i watch this and feel invigorated by what i see. Along with very entertained , who know`s maybe it`s the acting quality that makes me feel that way ?. That and a refusal to try and glorify what`s happening on screen .

But then should that really make the difference ?, as one of my favourite games ever was Manhunt. Something that didn`t simply glorify violence but revelled in it

Anyway if any of my respected fellow members has a few choice violent films to throw into the mix please do so , but do let us know how or if they affected you

I think one of the most violent films I have seen is Goodfellas, now this is a brilliant, well acted film and the violence never seems gratuitous (how could you take a true story about the mob and it not be violent?)

I think "Reservoir Dogs" deserves a mention

Feel the same way and it was a damn excellent film , but then i see something like Casino which is more or less along the same mob lines and i have to winch. Well at only one scene granted , but it`s a bloody believable one at that . It`s where Pesci`s character get`s attacked by his own crew and they make him watch as they beat his brother as near to death as you could get , then bury them both while still breathing. I mean sure both him and his brother were real pieces of work , but that scene man that scene was practically unwatchable it was so violent .

That all actually occured in real life, watched a documentary on The History Channel, well worth watching

For those that may not know Both films were based heavily on actual events.

Also i hadn`t even thought about those other types of films. Which is odd as on balance i`d say Zombie movies are my favourite and they don`t come much more violent, but like you say it`s almost more of a cartoon violence. As for Jeepers Creepers ?, well i`d hate to meet the person who took that sucker seriously. Certainly not the sequel at any rate , still what was seriously upsetting about them both was the total lack of female nudity

Where do you draw the line between bloodshed and violence?
Offhand I'd say Hostel (1 & 2) are among the most horrific films I've seen in recent times, however I'm not sure you would describe them as violent.
Sadistic certainly, but when the victims are bound as they were in both these films, then doesn't it become simply slaughter? Calculated, considered and calm.

At least up until the escaped victim meets (meats?) his torturer in a train station at the end.

The thing I remember most about 'Jeepers Creepers', was the funky truck from the first one. I want one.

Goodfellas, I love it when Pesci does the whole 'you think I'm funny' thing; violence looking for a place to happen.

As blondifan said there's a difference between violence and bloodshed, a slasher film isn't very violent because its so unbelievable.

I don't know if anyone here has seen 'Once Were Warriors', its about modern Maori life but its very violent but not very bloody. You can't watch the domestic violence scenes and be unaffected (well unless your Ted Bundy).

Funnily enough Alien rates as violent for me even though, apart from the chest-burster, you don't really see that much.

Very interesting thread idea. I once read a review of "The Outlaw Josie Wales" that said, "There's very little violence in this film, lots of killing, but little violence". I guess it's how you look at things. I can handle zombie movies, no sweat. The violence is cartoon-like and they're usually tongue in cheek. On the other hand, the Joe Pesci death scene in "Casino" or the scene in "Dirty Harry" where Scorpio pays a guy to beat the hell out of him so he can frame Harry, those make me uneasy.
