Charlie Chuck (real name David Kear), who also appeared on The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer as "Uncle Peter". There's clips of him on Youtube.

I remember him playing the drums on James Whale's show once and I was in absolute stitches. Pity there's nothing like that on TV now.

recall a laywer called Gary Jacobs on the show; brilliant free legal advice; but now since most definitely deceased; as well as some odd curly haired chap in a smart suit and bowtie(?) whose name escapes me, but JW seemed to like making him look an idiot; or he hwas just an idiot... Jerry? perhaps?

Finally dragged his name up from the depths of memory - Jerry Hayes, Tory MP although he was more to the left of James Whales' own political beliefs (mind you, I sometimes thought Maggie Thatcher was to the left of JW!) which explains why JW tried to make him appear stupid so much of the time. He was actually one the more likable of the Thatcher era Tories.

Don't remember a bow tie though. There was a regular guest who (IIRC) always wore one - some "child genius" with very curly blond hair & a posh accent who turned up years later on another programme talking about his/her sex-change. Or did I dream that? Like everyone else I was pretty drunk whenever I watched it.

JW was also the first place anyone ever heard of Rockbitch (if you remember them?), they were on a few times & they've got their own thread here somewhere.

That's him alright - Just checked his/her wiki page, very strange story. No mention of JW but it might have been Wogan I was thinking of although he did seem to crop up on every single chat show for a while.
