Thumbs up Thanks again!

To all who've answered this thread, many thanks!

I'm still not sure exactly what I'm going to do next year, but with all your help, I've got a rough idea now what I want to do...

I'm trying to think of something worthy of my hometown of Birmingham... Hmm... Still thinking... Oh yeah, if you like spicy Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi food then there is the 'Balti triangle' which has a great array of these kinds of cuisine in the Sparkbrook area. Great real ale pub just outside Brum in Halesowen called the waggon and horses, just get the no 9 bus for that one!

You forgot to mention Broad St. with all of it's pubs.
Some of which are better than others in the city centre.
Also Rangertom could also visit the museum at RAF Cosford or historic Warwick. Which, has three military museums & needless to say Warwick castle. Although a visit to the castle is expensive.

If you manage to get your body over to these shores and I hope that you do, a few pointers for your delectation:

1. Not all Brits are royalists. ( I'm a Republican at heart, but not like your's in the 'colonies') Quite a lot of us would like to get rid of the Sax-Coberg-Gotha's. Or at least kick them off the free payments they receive off our taxes
2. We don't dislike the Irish, in fact we think the majority of them are ace.
3. We all have different accents. We do not all speak like that stammering tw@t Hugh Grant. The accents can change within twenty miles.
4. London is not England. Or Scotland. Or Wales.
5. If you do a bit of a search, you can find some really good eating establishments.
6. Here's a common misconception: We drink warm beer...No we don't.
A few years ago, a fine American couple stayed with us for a couple of days during their honeymoon! ( The mad fools!) They both concluded that our 'ale' is of the finest quality and they wished they could drink it back home.
The beer in question that was quaffed was Theakston's Black Sheep and Timothy Taylors. The beer is usually kept cellar temperature (Slightly cold)
7. We don't carry brollies and wear bowler hats.
8. We think that Mel Gibson is not a very nice person (Is that polite enough mods?)
9. The weather here is always sh*t.
10. Not all of us are white.

If you land here get your arse out'a London and explore, especially the North, where the puritans originally came from.,,

Where ever it is they came from, do you really want to recommend as a tourist spot the place so unpleasant that people who felt that the point of life was to suffer wouldn't stay there?

A common misconception. They originated from a village called Scrooby(nice name), which is a few miles from Doncaster. Also as a side note by a strange quirk of fate; it's the final place of destination (Doncaster) for thousand's of Redcoats after they were involved in the American War of Independence.

They were released into civilian life with no fanfare, no ceremonies, nothing.

I don't think George the third was happy.

Default Tank Museum

The Tank Museum in Dorset is well worth a visit. It takes a long time to
take in all the fantastic exhibits. And while you are in Dorset you could visit the Jurasic Coast near Lyme Regis.

Question

The GF and I got on to talking about the Queen Mum last night...She commented, "The woman must be over a hundred by now!" "Yeah" I said, "So does Charles become King when she passes, or what?"

OK, so we were a little behind the times because we all know the Queen Mum is actually in the realm of eternal spirit

There's the little darling.

OK, so the first question: Since Yoda, uh, erm, the Queen Mum HAS passed on why is not Charles King?

The second: why does this scary looking guy get the top post?

I mean seriously, he looks like a freeking vampire, not the romantic, good looking ageless kind either, I mean the been around for 1800 years and seen too many close calls with sunrises kind of vampire

Then of course there's Tabs

The Queen took the throne in 1952 upon the death of King George VI (her father). He had no sons so she became monarch as oldest child. Prince Phillip is not the head of the monarchy, he is the Queen's consort as he only married into royalty.

Same applied to the Queen Mother - she was a royal consort and therefore couldn't become Queen upon the death of her husband.

Prince Charles is next in line should Queen Elizabeth II die/abdicate.

It's called the line of succession.

I'm not a royalist. I'd be happier if they all buggered off. They can stay there as tourist attractions but I'm not happy paying for them through the tax system. Most of them aren't worth a pinch of shit.

Cheers,
Dumbassgo.
