Giving a shout out to Paul McGann as the eighth and most underrated Doctor. Find it barmy he`s deemed good enough to voice the radio series yet not the actual show !?!
My era was the Peter Davison one
So I've a soft spot for him and the Dr Who`s of the early to mid 80`s. A spot that didn't half harden when Peri became his assistant Liked Colin Baker`s interpretation too. I've watched the occasional episode. Maybe a handful all told since the Ninth incarnation. Last one made sod all sense to me and am I right in thinking the Doc managed to trigger an energy wave that brought back dead Daleks , who all resembled diarrhea and drowned their new home world in shit or something Still it was better than the Peter Kay episode Which had him playing a character who ingests other people He must take all their thoughts their ideas also I suppose. Geez , they based the creature on Peter himself then But wrong era for me or not , I voted Tom Who encompasses everything a semi immortal Time Lord should be. Am sure die hard fans of the program will be mighty pissed off at having a female Doctor. I`m nonplussed as long stopped properly watching it anymore. What I don't understand though is why they didn't make a proper re-boot of the franchise after a transitional series. They could have brought Tom back even as the 13th just for one series. Then have him while alive , pass the Tardis baton onto this new first incarnation female Doctor. Beginning a whole fresh era of female Doctors. Mind Tom had his chance so if it was up to me I`d make Brian -Legend- Blessed the 13th and final male Doctor Now that would have been imaginative , placated most grumbles plus set up Jodie Whittaker perfectly. Been bloody unmissable television too

Don't much care about the new Doc being a woman, and she can act too. (The Daily Fa... err Mail has already splashed clips of previous sex scenes...) But. Please, god, don't make her gay... I got weary enough of Torchwood, where "Captain Jack" even turned a straight guy. No problem at all with people being gay, just weary of this constant pushing of it like they are ticking a diversity checklist. New companion? Oh yes. Female? Of course... black? Yes, done that already, but better... I know, know... black... female... lesbian!! Hooray!! Prosecco all round!! (A voice in the background goes... in a wheelchair? Muslim?)

Now here`s one assistant I could have done without
Can only think Star Wars and the popularity of the droids led to him Personally I`d have chosen Metal Mickey as an assistant . Or failing that Dusty Bin. Anyone other than sodding K9

it was obvious where it was going when missy was revealed as a regeneration of the master rather than a disguise of which would have made more sense. The last series was saved only by the acting of capaldi and gomez because the plot holes of the last couple of series have been bigger than the inside of the tardis. Now bowing to the politcally correct/everyone should get a turn bunch they're completely at odds with the entire back story. They've also painted themselves into a corner because the next one (if indeed the franchise survives this debacle) has to be black. They can't bring Bill back because she jumped into space with 'puddle girl'. It's all going to look a bit thelma and louise the outer space years.
prepare for a female James Bond folks. Last edited by m100; July 17th, 2017 at 01:44 PM.. |

I watched the first episode on transmission and hid behind the sofa a few times over the years. I did like William Hartnell, in fact I have time for all of the early incarnations, but Patrick Troughton probably remains my favourite - slightly irrascible, other worldly and a very decent actor. Jo, Katy Manning was my favourite assistant, partly because I was at the right age and also because I met her - tiny little thing she is too, but quite charming.
I couldn't stand David Tennant - two expressions, wide eyed or wide eyed and slack jawed. Matt Smith I thought was easily the best of the most recent ones and his assistant was v.tasty too. Most loathesome assistant would be between Catharine Tate and Lena f'ing Zavaroni. Capaldi's Dr didn't work for me, so haven't watched it for a while and probably won't bother with the new one. I do think the decision to appoint a female Dr is another PC decision, nothing more nothing less. The BBC is riddled with nonsense. Listen to the radio - there are so many broadcasters severely uninhibited by talent, but all too obviously there to make the numbers up. But in all honesty I don't care that it's a woman. At least it wasn't the seemingly ubiquitous Idris feckin Elba. |

well he'll probably be next - unless he cops for james bond. Whenever the new one leaves we're also going to get cries of 'oh she didn't get as long as .....'.

I still hold the BBC in contempt for abandoning 'ZEN' which I thought was a really good, Italian based cop show, which lasted precisely 3 episodes. The commissioning editor dropped it because it was 'another middle age/class white detective'. Like a lot of real detectives, across europe? It was a good programme. Meanwhile, Idris Elba's 'Lucifer', which was produced as part of the same trial run was given a couple of series, presumably then, because he's not white..? Patronising, condescending nonsense. Leave gender/colour etc out of it, just make good drama. And I really, really, really don't care about the sexual preferences of characters, celebrities etc. unless it is essential for character or plot development. Once they are onscreen either they are good actors or not. Good luck to the lass concerned. Mind you, if she's from Yorkshire, the viewing figures across the pennines'll waver... |

I was also quite partial to Christopher Ecclestone's portrayal,Riven by guilt and grief,The only survivor of a cataclysmic war.His despair in The Parting of the Ways" when He is confronted by millions of insane Human Daleks was palpable.
