SF I'm pleased to hear that in the US at least some counteraction is beginning-here in NZ the anti-vaccination lobby is only starting (why does NZ have to slavishly follow every idiotic fashion that starts somewhere else!?)-but will no doubt grow....[I do hold out some hope that commonsense will ultimately prevail-the anti-fluoridationists seem to be losing all their lawsuits here lately!]
I find it odd-that in a society (NZ) which bends over backwards to mollycoddle children-compulsory sunhats at preschools, -plus shades over playing areas, walking buses, and the like-we should quite happily accept parents refusing to vaccinate their children.......that same society has the world's highest incidence of childhood asthma, and seems to be heading hellbent on achieving #1 status for food allergies.....something is wrong with the parenting model at population level-let alone individual level....

Vaccinations against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox should be obligatory. People who refuse to vaccinate themselves or their children are very irresponsible and may pose a threat to others, especially newborns and people with a weak immune system. Measles for example are highly contagious and extremely dangerous without the proper medical precautions. Side effects from vaccinations are very rare and harmless compared to the consequences of diseases like measles if unprevented. Ignorance has nothing to do with individual choice. If you refuse to vaccinate against tetanus or hepatitis B, that's your problem because they're not contagious like measles.
The state cannot force parents to vaccinate their children but it has the right to enforce such measures in public schools, even private schools that are government-funded. Nowdays, thanks to the internet, everyone thinks he's a medical expert. The claim that vaccine causes autism is a pile of horse manure. It occurs to me that the message is bigger: all forms of medical treatment are bad for you, especially if you come from a lower income class. The neoliberals are lovin' it.

Rather ironic-in light of my comments above-and emphasising Norbert's last post-in yesterday's paper I read of a NZ high court trial where a NZ father is being prosecuted for deliberately-and systematically witholding treatment from his HIV positive son, because he believes 'HIV is just a harmless retrovirus and has nothing to do with AIDS' and the drugs are bad for him.....

It was planned and calculated-he been routinely picking up the prescription drugs, but not administering them-eventually the medical authorities involved in treating the son became suspicious and ran a series of blood tests-which showed zero trace of the prescribed drugs over an extended period...

Times like this I really sympathise with those who think we need to licence people before they're allowed to breed....and people like this should be permanently banned from it.....the trouble is you usually only find out after they've had children....

Vaccines are a scourge and I refuse to get vaccinated, and no one can tell me otherwise. Not the nanny state, no one. I would never let anyone put that garbage in my body, not after reading what they put in them. Stories have been popping up all over about people contracting diseases and even dying after receiving vaccines. Big Pharma is pushing its child killing vaccines on children, and the death tolls keep rising.

Another thing is the border problem in the U.S. that is causing a rise in all of these diseases. Ever since the so-called government started deliberately letting in these illegals into the country, cases of mumps and measles has skyrocketed.

I hear nothing but bad news when it comes to vaccines.

Measles is a really serious disease. I had it as a baby, less than one year old, and for nearly a month my mother had to bathe my eyes several times a day because the pus sealed them shut and blinded me. I have always had eyesight problems ever since I was a small child; this may of course be a coincidence. I must be honest with you, Reverend, I am very against you having freedom of choice in this matter. I think that what you consider to be your individual rights are actually dangerous to others. I would certainly ostracise anyone I know who adopted your position.

Does it ever cross you mind to wonder why so many immigrants from countries which do not vaccinate get measles, mumps and German measles, as compared with so few US citizens, of whom more than 90% are vaccinated? Do you think you might be showing the flaw in your own argument here?

As I have already said, measles is a really serious disease. Prior to vaccination, it was universal; nearly everyone would catch it. It was one of the causes of the high infant mortality rate in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Vaccination does not only protect you; it protects everyone else who comes into contact with you. You talk as though it is all about you and your individual rights. I disagree; I think it is about your duty to others.

You are entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong it is. I tell you true though that if I were to lose a child because someone with an unvaccinated kid infected them there would be hell to pay with the parents. If you chose not to vaccinate keep your damn kids away from mine.

No, the link between vaccines and autism has not been disproven. The FDA (Fraud and Deception Administration) is on a crusade to censor any information regarding the truth about vaccines. Such as with the case of organic foods and other healing products. They promote hazardous chemicals and God only knows what else as a way to treat symptoms of diseases. Rather than cure them. vaccines have been proven time and time to cause many illnesses and if not, kill that person. If that is the case, then that should raise an alarm right away. Problem is, people are stupid enough to put that garbage in their bodies without even knowing what goes in the vaccines. There is no myth.

The reason why these people from third world countries have so many diseases is not because of the lack of vaccination, but the piss poor living conditions in which they were raised in. Some with no running water, lack of nutritious foods. And the main problem is ignorance on how the human works and how it can heal itself if properly maintained.
