Born in the USA.... Bruce Springsteen... On cassette tape.. It was a Chrome tape. First on CD was Sgt Pepper's The day it was released on CD and Cold Chisel Twentieth Century.... My older Bro' had landed himself a very good job and the CD player cost $1000.. I was the first kid at school to have a CD player (well my Bro's). It was funny the reaction from my other mates, we were a poor family now we were starting to get thing's more advanced than them for a change.. I thought they would be happy for me I wasn't expecting the reaction of Jealousy......

Mine was Ozzy's first record post Sabbath. Speak of the Devil. A live gig he played at the Filmore East in NYC. Ironically all Sabbath tunes with a different backing band. Pre Randy.

Mine was the 7-inch single of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", by Queen. That would have been October/November 1979.

In 1963, I bought "Glad All Over" by the Dave Clark Five with money I got for my 6th birthday. Six shillings and three (old) pence - so 31 and-a-bit new pence.
I would have bought the Beatles' current single of course but my sister had already got that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EipdAjhImrc |

Humble beginnings of a metal head
I turned 13 in the summer of 1980. My parents bought me a record player and said I could pick three albums to buy. I bought AC/DC's Back In Black, KISS Alive II and Grand Illusion by Styx.
One of my Uncles brought over all of his Black Sabbath albums and we spent an entire day drinking soda, eating junk food and listening to Sabbath and the three I bought. Now, whenever I buy music, I think about how it would have sounded that day in my room on that day. My uncle is quite old now but the dude still rocks. I recently played Deceiver of the Gods by Amon Amarth for him and he said I would have blown up my record player if we had that back then. But he said it as he was bobbing his head to the beat...great old guy. |
