Cash, I never use a credit card outside of the Internet because I don't want anyone standing over me while I put in numbers into a pad or swipe it etc. I know what you're thinking, surely it's more likely to be nicked online as well but apart from ONE incident where my details were stolen, I'm pretty confidant when I use it online or of course the PAYPAL alternative. Some idiot uses his card to pay for a carton of milk or a packet of cigarettes holding everyone up in the queue is irritating and I agree surely they wouldn't go out without having some coins in their pocket. My Dad always used to tell me to take some extra cash with me just incase I needed to make a phonecall or buy something(this is from teenage onwards) so my vote is for CASH.

Cash almost exclusively. I guess I'm really old school in that I was taught from a youngster that you don't buy something unless you can pay for it. I realize that credit cards are in somewhat of a grey area here but the idea still holds true for me.
and tygrkhat40, I don't know where you live but here in the midwest US most gas stations have started charging about $0.10 per gallon more for credit card purchases. Not a big difference but, depending on how much you drive, that could stack up to a few dollars over the course of a year. |

I do prefer cash, but I have a debit card not a credit card. But I have seen wankers buy a newspaper and a pint of milk on card If you are doing a big family shop that comes to £150 then fair enough use your card.
Fleets mentioned OAPs, in my local post office the old codgers just can't remember their pin, or they don't know how to enter it. So they ask someone to enter it for them it's 1234 I think. But we are moving towards a cashless society.

Neither.
Debit card - same as cash, portable like a credit card. My debit card is my best friend.

Cash. There is a stupid commercial here that used to run all the time. Its a cafeteria line rolling through with everyone using credit cards. Suddenly, the line comes to a screaching halt because someone decides to pay by cash, disrupting everyones happy day. Its absolutely annoying to watch because the opposite is usually true. I never use my card unless its a very large purchase and even then, its usually a debit card rather than credit.
As already mentioned, check writers are even worse, knowing this little old man/woman is going to review their entire financial status while they turn a blind eye to the line growing behind them. |

If I'm just picking up a few things in a corner store, then cash is King as far as I'm concerned. In my neck of the woods, nobody's allowed to pay by check anymore for anything.
I sometimes use my debit card to pay, because the ATM around my way charges $1.75 for transactions. Saving $2 by letting the clerk swipe my card seems like a no brainer at times. My purchase has to be more than the cash I have on hand though. Such is life when a brother has an account with a small bank. My bank only has 2 branches. I usually don't have any problems standing in line unless people in front of me are gambling their paychecks away on scratch tickets & lottery tickets. Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick your nose... oh the agony. As far as credit, I only use it for online purchases & big purchases in a store. Need a new TV? Credit. Need a hooker? Cash. |

I use cash for most things,I have a debit card but I mostly just use it to draw cash.I used to have a credit card but I had to get rid because the number had become too well known in certain corners of the 'net.

These days you can pay by phone, if you're there in person, things are getting way too complicated for me

It's exactly the same for me and don't the cashiers get arsey when you try to pay for something with a handfull of small change. It's all legal tender after all.
