As Napolean once said 'Give me lucky Generals' and who was the Golfer who made a brilliant shot for someone in the crowd to shout Lucky shot. His reply was 'Yeah and the more I practice the luckier I get.'
As an old fart who owns several blazers and even more Barbour jackets, I hate the modern stage management of the game. The walkout onto the pitch instead of the teams running out, having some troll singing the National Anthems after some announcer (presumably borrowed from some hospital radio station) has asked everyone to stand, it's a Rugby crowd for heavens sake they are supposed to know how to behave. These stage managers (and not very good ones at that) don't realise that the game is the event and the bulk of the crowd know it. Rant over reach for blood pressure pills and kick the cat. |

To Quote Haroldeye and Mizlaplan
"Eddie Jones is a lucky coach. That is something we should all remember. Stuart Lancaster, despite being great technically, wasn't. 'Give me lucky Generals' " England have steel under Jones seem to have cut out the stupid match losing decisions of the Lancaster era. I blame Cuthbert for the try ,he showed Elliot the outside and Elliot skinned him.Heatbreaking for poor Rupert Scotland V France, missed the game was watching The Schools Cup[my old school won Yeah] only saw the News highlights very strange panicking over the conversion what was going on there? Italy are shocking and its only getting worse, its really only the 5 Nations

Apparently, Scotland were afraid that the try was going to be reviewed for a prior infringement. Take the conversion and no review possible.
Well that's the explanation from today's mail. |

I just saw the 2nd half , I had a Sunday nap (Côtes du Rhone...) ... I found the team not very brilliant, just a bit too "short-winded". But we won, essential is done. Scots were ok. Here the big titles of the newpapers are " relieved !". |

Big Blow to Scotlands Campaign
Scotland skipper Greig Laidlaw will miss the rest of the 2017 RBS 6 Nations after sustaining ankle ligament damage in his side's narrow loss to France last Sunday.
Scotland have lost their leader their kicker and an excellent scrumhalf, huge loss

Back to ordinary stuff! I now have two top flight players in the extended family, the boy, still injured and the baby of the trio are off to the North! Last ties with Wales broken, sad but very very proud, at least with the new influx of talent Ospreys were very reasonable, and gave no hassle to an early release, at last I can brag, no need to continue the hush hush stuff!

Interview with Rupertramjet Part I
What Rugby position would you like to play?
As a prop, it would always be my position of choice, but the modern prop is not as key as the prop of my day. As a tight head, my job was to keep the loose head up, to enable the hooker to have a clear view of the ball, it was also quite common to strike the ball yourself, nowadays scrummaging is not so about, winning the ball fairly as crooked feeds take all that away, we also played three matches, man to man, front row to front row, and least important the match! Have you ever eaten Welsh Rarebit? I never ate a Welsh rarebit, could never find one, it is a Cardiff virgin! But I did eat the cheese on toast lol! Did you enjoy Invictus the movie? I have actually not seen it, due to never being in the UK when it was showing, I would like to, as I have great respect for Pieenar, there was an incredible atmosphere during the whole tournament, and a really warm feeling about it. I also feel that he was treated appallingly by the SARU! Favourite players who played for Ireland England Wales Italy Scotland France? Ireland Kieth Wood, always fought tooth and nail for every team he played for, fierce opponent and a great bloke off the pitch. England Bill Beaumont, not the greatest player, even in his era, but a true leader who you would follow to hell and back. Approachable and easy going,as is his son, I have huge hopes for Rugby with him at the IRB! Wales ohhhhh! Hard, so many, Bennett, Edwards, Price, all legends, but two men stick out, not just as great players, but true real men who faced the doubters and their own demons and came out on top, which to me is what the game is all about! Shane Williams, because he was always being told he was a bloody midget and would never make it in Rugby, and above all a true hero, and Gareth Thomas, it took real courage to come out as he did, and to continue to be a player, the strength of the man leaves me humbled, but the reaction of fellow players and the fans was breathtaking, in the old Cornish saying, the attitude was 'matter do it?'! Italy have one outstanding player Sergio Parisse, of the things I like about him are his continued loyalty to Italy, he could go elsewhere, forget International Rugby and make a lot more money, few teams would not sign him! But he plays on, again what the game should be about! Scotland, Andy Irvine magical player, could turn disaster to joy and was breathtaking to watch, Hogg may yet prove to be the same class! France, another full back, again a player who could change games, and one I have shared the odd smoke with! Serge Blanco! Are the Lions still valid? Yes absolutely! It gives top players a goal to aim at, a chance to know that they are the very best, and opposition fans and players adore the chance to play against them, I hope it continues for many a year, and one of my two big regrets is that I was never selected, the other is that I never played for Cornwall. Best Sports movie? Chariots of fire, winning against the odds and personal determination. Who or what moment in sport would you like to see in a movie? Chris Fromme winning his first Tour de France, partly because I would love him to have the chance to show what a decent bloke he really is! Who would play you in a movie? Somebody good looking and sexy! But probably Johnny Vegas would get the part!

Part II
Who will win the RBS ?
England, they have won ugly twice, but they have a belief in themselves which is deep seated and they can spoil, sad but true, I think they will do it, at the moment, I might even put a bet on them winning the World Cup! Whats you dream job? Running a Mental Health Charity like Combat Stress, or in some way being involved in a way that can make a difference to the lives of both the patients and more importantly the families and supporters of those affected, having been on the receiving end, it is devastating, and trying to support someone I love with serious mental health problems is without doubt the toughest test I have ever faced. I still feel I lost. Who was your first crush? A girl at Primary School when I was about nine, but famous ones it has to be Lulu! If you had to be on a reality TV show, which one would you choose? I would not be allowed to do one because of my Army background, but I hate them all with a passion and find them a bit er sad! What celebrity annoys you the most? Most of them! Most of them I have never heard of! They seem to be famous for nothing, but the absolute pains are the ones who preach and actually think they make a difference! And last but not least Shoot Shag OR Marry ,[pick one for each category]Charlotte Church .Catherine Zeta -Jones and Catherine Jenkins? Catherine Jenkins, one was married to someone I was matey with the other likes older men than me! So you Shoot Charlotte Shag CZJ and Marry C Jenkins? Yes please! Thanks Rupes lol loved your answers especially the " Yes Please "

A funny tale!
After being injured in an incident in Northern Ireland, I was flown home to hospital. I asked the orthopeadic specialist what I had done,'Oh you have crushed a couple of vertebrae, in plain English you have broken your back!' said he with a cheerful lilt! Well as you can imagine, as a soldier and Rugby player, that was great news! So I asked if I could play again, to which he replied 'oh yes, it is not too serious, you will recover.' So I said will I play top flight, oh yes he replied, will I be able to play International. 'of course!' Said our cheerful now friend, 'will I make the Lions tour?' Of course you will said my now best mate! 'Thank God for that miracle!' I replied he smiled and looked at me questioningly and said 'why miracle?' 'Because I wasn't picked!' I said! |
