Friends we hung around were always telling her she should apply to Playboy to be a Playmate and she would only laugh. Finally, a friend of mine and I jotted down the addresses for Playboy and Penthouse and sent in some snapshots I gathered up. Kind of as a lark actually. Not really expecting much to come of it other than perhaps interesting dinner conversation.

We recieved positive replies from both magazines within about a month and the short-lived odyssey began. Basically, she spoke with Earl Miller and after that made plans to fly to LA to shoot for Penthouse. Both of us were thrilled. As she had never posed nude before I was truthfully shocked she had excepted the offer but she seemed to be excited and ready to go. The trip was planned for a few months out as she had to schedule the vacation time.

Essentially, in the intervening time as word spread throughout our circle of friends and then leaked from one set of loose lips to another, all manner of drama began to unfold and, before the trip date arrived she decided it was going to cause issues and cancelled. I was and remain....devastated, but understanding her position.

My wife would not have wanted any association with the magazine in its current iteration. What a shame both Playboy and Penthouse are mere shells of their former pasts.

Thanks for answering my post. Phyl always had two minds about this picture. This was taken the first day of the photo shoot and I was not able to be there that first day. I did join her that night after the first day and I was there for the rest of the shoot.

That night she told me she was very nervous all day because i wasn't there ... so she tried to imagine it was me taking the photos rather than Earl Miller. She demonstrated several of the poses she had done that day and this pose was one she specifically talked about wishing it was me behind the camera.

When the issue came out and she saw this one was the centerfold ... she laughed and said something to affect of ... "damn ... of all the pictures; they had to put the one that says 'come fuck me' as the centerfold.

One final note ... when I met Earl the next day he also told me the Phyl was clearly nervous and it showed in the results. Earl also told me it was his policy that boyfriends and husbands were not allowed on the set because he'd had too many problems in the past. Then, when Phyl arrived on the set after hair & make-up I asked Earl to let me talk with her a bit to get her to relax. Earl agreed and we both went on the set.

I spoke with Phyl for a good bit while Earl got the lighting set up. When I saw he was ready to get to work I got up to leave but Earl surprised me by telling me to stay right where I was ... that it was clear she was much more comfortable with me by her side. So for the remainder of the shoot ... I was never more than 15 or 20 feet from her. The results speak for themselves. This was that first pic with me there. I was sitting on the edge of the bed just to her right.

As for hardcore, I always kind of wished PH would insert some hardcore shots... only photographed as stylishly and romantically as their old couples and group pictorials were. I remember wanting particularly badly for Kristen & Tommy (9/81) and The Bluest Lagoon (2/82) to show some actual penetration!

You know what would have been great? If they had picked a Forum letter from the previous issue every month and had the models act it out!

I agree ... that would have been an interesting idea. Both Phyl and I enjoyed many of the letter that were in the forum. She especially liked the letters written by women.

Also ... I appreciate the work you put into the index. I have a private thought on that which I'll send as a private message.

Here's the scoop on that photo.

First, as I said before ... other than the first day of the 4 day shoot ... I was always just feet away. With all of the shots from the jacuzzi tub ... I was sitting in a chair about 5 feet from the right of the tub.

The first one was her pouring water on herself with the pitcher and the second was her sitting on the edge of the tub looking into the camera. The thrid was her laying in the tub looking at the camera. For that shot, Earl asked me to push all of the foam towards her ... covering everything except her breasts.

By this time the water in the tub had cooled so we turned the jets on high with hot water. Phyl knew from experience in hot tubs that a water jet could often get her off multiple times. So she decided she might as well have some fun ... and without direction from Earl ... she moved her hips up so the water jet was fully on her. It didn't take long and she was in ecstasy. Fortunately, Earl had put in a fresh roll of film so he clicked away as Phyl enjoyed herself. The photo of her with her head back was during a real orgasm.

After that, she needed to take a break for a few minutes to calm down. So she flipped over and sat on her knees in the tub. She also had to dry off the soapy water that had splashed all over her face. While she was using the orange towel, Earl asked if she had any more surprises. If I may, when mine was readying herself to shoot with Earl, her biggest concern was not really wanting to shoot masturbation photos. For some reason she said she was dreading the shots where she was appear to "fuck myself" as she put it. She said she wasn't an actress and was afraid they would look "goofy". I never once thought to suggest she really do it. What a novel approach! The magic of show-business.

Really cool to get this kind of insight from one of the few people who can provide it. Thanks again.
