Worst inventions?
We could sit all day discussing Billy Mays gadgets that are "not sold in stores", but I mean every day stuff we have, use, and hate. What do you wish back into the abyss?
I hate cell phones.I hate texting especially.Great idea that.Get a telephone, and rather than talk on the thing, type on it. I hate the little cameras that now have every high school girl's privacy compromised,I hate slow pokes in the fast lane with a phone against their numb skulls, and I hate seeing service people trying to interact with customers who can't be bothered to acknowledge a person is helping them.I hate your cute little ring tone, and I hate that they've become so ingrained in society that we can't do without them-even in a movie theater. That's mine, what's yours? |

Hit the nail on the head Anklebiter.
Junk mail. Having to sort through it to actually get my mail. Yes I really wanted to know about your extraordinary discount on cat shaving. It's good to know trees are being used responsibly. Fortunately I keep my recycle bin about 4 feet from the mailbox so its easily disposed of. Politicians. If there's a problem pass a law. If there's a problem with that law, pass another law. If there's still a problem that's Ok we passed a law. Can the law be enforced, who cares? Kickbacks, never heard of them. Now stop bothering me so I can get my snout back in the trough of consolidated revenue euphemistically known as 'taxpayers money'.

Texting seems to be a step backwards in technology if you ask me. In the evolution of gadgets, sending messages should pre-date the ability to talk to another person, in real time, anywhere in the world.

Landcruiser HJ 47 jacks
More of a serious design flaw than a bad invention,
Toyota Landcruiser standard Jacks are downright dangerous. The jack has about a 4 inch square base on which to support a vehicle weighing around 1.75 tons, unladen. When your tyre is completely flat they are too tall to get under the axle. On the other hand once you've positioned the jack under the axle, and if the sucker hasn't sunk into the ashphalt, the "thing" generally runs out of travel before your wheel is clear of the ground. (I carry a block of wood to use under it, usually stops the sinking while giving me extra inches) All this with winding with a useless hook arrangement on a short rod, which comes off constantly and means at least your shoulder is in danger of getting crushed when it all comes crashing down |

Indeed, it's like using a fax machine as a perch for your carrier pigeon.

You're right of course, but it's free to text, while calls cost (too much) money. Even if I call someone, they'll text me back. If I insist they call me, I'm forcing my willingness to pay for calls upon them, which really isn't fair. So I have to text if I want to communicate. It's a bit ridiculous, but I am getting used to it.

I got my first one aged 45, I admit I have them high on my right arm where I can hide them if I want to but I'm now thinking of getting something large and tribal on my left arm.
