I turned beet red, but I took the nightgown out of the bag and showed her what I had bought. My aunt asked who it was for, and I couldn't get a word out to answer her. She gave me a funny smile and pursed her lips so as not to laugh. I was on the verge of tears the whole way home. She pulled up in front of our apartment, gave me a big hug and told me it was OK before she dropped me off and left. Once I got inside, I calmed down, took my nightgown out of the bag, carefully removed the tags, got undressed and put on the nightgown. At that moment, all of the looks, all of laughs, all of the embarrassment all disappeared and I knew that it was worth it. I had a nightgown of my very own, from the Joan Collins Lingerie Collection and I was on Cloud 9.
