Be a`warned This has music hall numbers

Is a Jack the ripper-ish type plot. Where a woman on trail for the death of her husband only has one chance of freedom. If said husband can be proven to be this Jack the ripper gravely echo voiced (That voice get`s old real fast) demon wannabe.
Yet it throws red herrings at you about characters you know aren't the villain. Since they`re only shown briefly without backstories.
Any avid watcher worth their salt knows these kind of films aren't bringing anything new to the table. So they`ll put a twist into the tail.
A twist you like me will have figured out once twenty four minutes has passed. Because only one person on screen is given a backstory.

- Sigh -

Film reviewer Mark (Smugly) Kermode rates it. Positively slobbed over it so he did.
Once more we`ll have to disagree.
Having figured out the only possible twist it could be I found it sloooow going from then on. Is nicely atmospheric of the period however and the acting saves a samey script. Don't know what it is about Jane Goldman`s scripts. She has the knack of putting words in actors mouths that never stun or surprise.

Almost was going to give it one thumbs up for Olivia Cooke`s wonderful performance.

But did that with the fifth Pirate nonsense and felt duly rightly embarrassed for doing so , by the end of that bloody dumb movie

The Hellion on DVD

Not a film of the classic album into by Judas Priest but a very quick renaming of this

The Snare (2017)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2935390/

Three friends two female and one bloke, none of whom are likeable in any way, arrange to stay in a seaside hotel owned by one of the girl's father and is oddly closed for the winter break. They decide to stay in the top floor and pretty soon find that they are trapped, no television or phone signals and the food they recently bought has gone putrid very quickly. The lift does not work so they are trapped and pretty soon they start to break apart and start seeing visions, what a weird disjointed aimless film
The ending is not what I thought and it left a pretty hollow feeling, so many questions unanswered
Whoever gave it 4 stars as noted on the DVD cover really needs to get a new job

Living Dark
aka Living Dark: The Story of Ted the Caver
www.imdb.com/title/tt2100573/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE5CuKJxOsc

Two brothers, meeting for the first time in years for their father's funeral, when one trips over something in the cemetery and pulling up the plank over which they trip they uncover the entrance to a cave. Inside they find a small hole that leads to an unexplored cave, after a few days they manage to enlarge the hole still only one of them is slim enough to just about make it through. After a quick look they bring in another local to help them but he runs off screaming .... just what is behind that cave???

This is one of the Netflix movies that I saw over the weekend. The Great Wall, starring Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal(Game of Thrones Season 5), Willem Dafoe and some famous Chinese actors. It is an action packed fantasy horror movie made by studios in the U.S. and China. The story takes place in 1035 a.d. somewhere in China near the Great Wall of China. Damon and Pascal are two men who have traveled to China to seek what they call "the black powder" (gunpowder) that was invented by the Chinese because they were told it has great power. They run into an entire army of what looks like an elite battle unit that uses all kinds of strange weapons and fighting techniques to beat off this seemingly fantastic threat that comes from distant mountains every 60 years.

They find out that this threat are great fighting , but intelligent monstrous creatures that came from a great meteor that crashed into the mountains over a thousand years before. Most of the film has these great battle scenes between the soldiers on top of the great wall and thousands of these monsters that look sort of like a cross between lions and lizards with superbig sharp teeth. And all the regular creatures are controlled by a queen. Most of this film is all made possible by computer generated visual effects. It is quite a good action film. There is no romance in the film.

Bit of a Christopher Nolan fest here, first the brilliant Dunkirk . . . even if it takes liberties with the history, what a great film. Just brilliant stuff. I can't recall a war film that felt as strange and desperate, and it does nicely ask the never-answered historical question, "why did the Germans pause"?

Then on to Interstellar, which I hadn't seen when it came out. In one light its disappointing, not nearly so fine as Dunkirk, but I looked at it as Nolan's love letter to Stanley Kubrick. Interstellar fixes 2001, and that makes it uniquely interesting in film history, its very rare for a subsequent film to so perfectly resolve something left unanswered in the original . . . "The Wrath of Khan" might be said to have done that for "Botany Bay", sort of . . . but no one watching the original Trek episode was left with the "huh" that nearly half a century of 2001 viewers have had.

I didn't see any obvious reference to it, but Interstellar also seems to be namechecking those "Toynbee Tiles" that you used to see around US cities (were they overseas too?)

Catch Me If You Can with Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio and apparently based on the real life story of conman Frank Abagnale.
Even if it's only Hollywood's version of the true story it's a great human drama and the two leads are immensely likeable, which always helps.

Lightbulb If you only see one movie this year !!!

Then what are you on this thread for

A former acting star who`s prime in terms of roles is way long (Forty years since asked to attend an audition ) past . Has to cope with a new present. An unwanted tick tock time running out present. After being told he`ll soon be dead.

Shall type no more although we`re talking about a triple
In fact and might I believe in such awards . Then I`d say if the director and both Sam Elliott plus Laura Prepon don't win respective Oscars for this. Then. Let`s firebomb the academy
Uh huh, I more than highly recommend the fantastic film

Fallen (1998)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119099/

Detective John Hobbes (Denzel Washington) goes to witness the execution of a serial killer, the killer is quite relaxed and even speaks in ancient tongues, not long after the execution a series of killings occur which are very similar to Reese's style and Hobbes also starts to receive some odd phone calls.
Investigating a series of odd clues Hobbes comes across the name Azazel which he discovers is a demon and that it transfers to and from people simply by them touching someone else
