But like Mal says, back on topic: Brexit today

It seems May has a plan that will distress many in UK. If what they say is true (the text has not been published yet) UK will stay in the customs union, and will not be allowed to leave it unless both parties agree

This means they will be subject to ECJ jurisdiction in some matters indefinitely, and will not be able to make their own trade deals. It also means they will be a "rule-taker" without representation in the EU Parliament and other EU organs. In other words, they will be unable to influence policy or laws, but will have to do what they're told

Why it will distress many? Because it will break two Brexit "red lines": sovereignty, because they won't be making their own laws; and sovereignty again, because they will be subject to ECJ jurisdiction

Knowing the sentiments of some colleagues on this forum, it will cause them more than distress -- it may cause rage, because they'll be worse off in every conceivable way, and still won't have gotten what they wanted

But as mentioned, the text has not been published yet

Full text of the draft agreement here. It's 587 pages, but loads quickly:

https://ec.europa.eu/commission/site...greement_0.pdf

To take effect, it must be passed by UK Parliament, all 27 EU member states, and the EU Parliament

Well amazingly it has just been announced that the Cabinet have backed the Brexit draft agreement. Now lets see what happens with others and the country.

It also seems to have sorted out the Gibraltar problem(sovereignty rights of the UK over Spain's consistent plea that it is theirs)and perhaps the Irish problem-not mentioned as I type this BUT here is the BIG caveat-the UK will still be under the laws and customs of the EU even after we leave the EU up to December 2020-this is NOT what the people voted for and this is the gamble that May made-the people will be very angry about this-we've not heard the last of this by any means.

I rarely have opinions about other nation's politics, given the deranged dotard we have, but my brief scan of the Brexit document reads like someone wants to declare victory, move on, and retire before the whole thing blows open.

The most expensive divorce in history has been agreed at this end at least. We now need to get on with the real negotiations. Assuming Parliament lets us.

The govt are still pumping out that propaganda to raise taxes.

In years to come we will wonder how we were taken in and it was vehicle exhaust fumes that were causing most emphysema and cancers.

Mrs May's new deal could lead to substantive negotiations but Labour and the DUP will torpedo it..
