It appears that you haven't been paying attention to the outrage that is spreading across the United States over the thousands of children the Border Patrol is taking from parents. The parents are being shipped back to the countries from which they have fled, while the children are placed with relatives living here, foster care, or group homes. Trump has finally gone too far for the American people. Expect the Republican party to pay dearly at the polls five months from now.

Despite attempting to describe the cages and chain link fenced concrete pens in which children are being detained as "shelters", it is starting to look as though the Administration has woken up to the harm they are sustaining from this story. Even Lucretia Borgia (sorry, I meant Melania) has commented disapproval of the spectacle of children being seperated from parents. Quite simply, this is not a sustainable position.

However it would be a mistake to pretend that this has happened in a vacuum. A lot of illegal immigration continues on the US-Mexican border and Mr Trump is clamping down on it, much as he said he would when campaigning. That effort won't stop. All that will happen is that the Trump adminsitration will find an alternative strategy for processing captured illegal families. Hopefully a more humane one.

Husbands and wives kept together? Single mothers kept in cells with males? I thought they separated them by sex/age partially for safety reasons.

Why don't we rent them a room at the Ritz while we decide to let them in or not?

We have plenty of problems with homeless and other poor in our country already. I feel sorry for them, but we don't have the resources to take care of everybody.

Why was this not a big deal during the Obama years when twice as many kids were in these facilities? Reuters did an expose with pictures and everything. In fact, some of the pictures were used in an attempt to blame Trump when it was pointed out they were taken over 2 years before he took office.

Where's the outrage at the parents that send the children ALONE the length of Mexico to apply for asylum. 10k of the 12k kids we're talking about arrived here that way. They were separated from their families by their families hundreds of miles before ever reaching the US border... knowing there's a loophole.

Even here at home-- if I get busted for something and my child is with me, the child doesn't go to jail with me.. I go to jail, the child goes to CPS. Nobody ever cries about my child being separated from me as I go to jail.

Well, if by initiated you mean enforcing existing law, then yeah I guess he did. Otherwise, the laws for dealing with these people, durations of stays, who goes where, were established long before Trump took office and even validated by the Federal Courts.

Congress is supposed to pass immigration laws and everyone knows it. There's too many of them who'd rather have the issue than a solution. Ever since Trump took office, many of things he's tried to implement have been met with unprecedented court challenges to his authority. Now's the time it's okay to sign an order that he obviously knows isn't valid.. just to shut everybody up? It's only a matter of time before we'll be reminded about how he's overstepped his bounds yet again.

But when dealing with an epidemic of Trump Derangement Syndrome, facts matter little. The main objective here is to destroy Trump. Everything else has failed so now anything is fair game. Before too long, he'll also have been deemed responsible for the Hindenburg.

Abraham Lincoln once said the one sure way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce it. Maybe there's method to the madness. Then again, they could always stop coming illegally. That might fix it.

You will note that I have 60 years of background with this garbage. Basically if the CIA hadn't turned these Central American countries into shit holes, we wouldn't have these problems. DHS has been trying to pass off pictures from the Obama administration to reflect current conditions. ICE was also not separating families and deporting parents while shipping their kids all over the country. Obama was also careful to reunite parents with their children and not charging people requesting asylum with crimes. You cannot pretend that people aren't showing up on our borders because they are desperate.
