The usual reasons, especially having been able to find copies of the two films a tape for £5, return £3 (or was it £2?) on Brick Lane back in the late 80s and 90s (the usual shock that my first hard core is now "Vintage," and looks nearly as old fashioned as the war time (from the haircuts) individual photographs that an old bloke on our estate once showed me and my brother - he was just being friendly: we were in our 20s, and we used to take old newspaper to the animal hospital for him).
Anyway, there is another reason. My discovery of the VEF coincided (more or less) with my starting dialysis, which meant that I had a fluid limit of about 700ml a day, which in turn meant that I was constantly thirsty for about a year to 18 months, until my body adjusted to it. Sundays were the worst: the afternoons really seemed to stretch, and without the VEF they would have seemed endless. Those were the times I would get involved in tracking down the histories for film makers and performers: there is so much more to the industry than I ever imagined. And I have to thank many posters for picking apart the cast lists etc, and giving the films a history and continuity that I had never really thought about before: porn has so much more interest than just "dirty pictures". I really think that you cannot understand a society unless you know its porn, and the VEF helps immeasurably in this understanding. It is also most welcoming - and least alien - erotica forum I have come across, and the only one I regularly visit. Posters are good-humoured and respectful (both of other posters, and of the people in the films and pictures that are posted). Basically they - you - pretty much all come across as human beings, with lives outside the forum: and this is the only erotica forum I have seen where you can say that, quite as often anyway. Picking out individual names would be invidious: but I have to mention Denaniel's exceptionally detailed posts (for reference, I have started saving his comments alongside the films - I hope he doesn't mind - and I wish I had thought to do so from the start). He seems also to have a taste that overlaps mine, since the titles that interest me most in the Classic Movies thread are very often his work: him or Roger Leon. I have left off commenting in the general thread recently, but since I have had a transplant I hope to have the energy to start doing so again (my problem now is trying to drink enough, which I find almost as difficult as hardly being able to drink anything). Oh, and the background design used on the VEF is very restful on the eyes. Last edited by Aubrey; November 13th, 2012 at 10:34 AM.. Reason: sorting out brackets |

Now that I am retired from working Vef has been a great benefit for me in that it fills the first few hours of the morning when I usually have not much to do.

I have a tremendous imagination and the threads on VEF allow me to compose great posts on a variety of subjects. Since I am now in my 60's I have many decades of experience in life that I can draw ideas from.

Probably expressing what several others have before but I just enjoy the lively, friendly and funny debates on the site. It seems weird but I'm not particularly into porn - never have been - never collected it. So I have nothing to post for which I apologise.
I actually signed up just to find a few bits and pieces including old sets of Susan Douglas and a few Mayfair shoots I remember from my youth (nude nurse Kay and army officer Roberta). I'm no fan of anything very "hardcore" at all. So I rarely stray away from the general discussion thread but that's fine - each to his own and it's all there if you wish to access it. In the end I suppose it's just like having a nice, irreverent chat in the pub with your mates and out of reach of too much political correctness. Don't get me wrong, politeness and respect are important and valuable, but a little knockabout scurrilousness from time to time gets it out of your system. A big thanks to all those who take the time to post stuff, serious or daft, to keep the site flowing. |

Dr Pepper that's just about what happened to me. I agree with everything you said.
By the way today is the 100th anniversary of the NZ attack at Belle Vue Spur. May those brave men rest in peace. |
