They did not die. Remember I said their ship was made out of Neutronium, an alloy so dense and strong that no radiation or force could penetrate it. If you are a Star Trek fan there was an episode from the 2nd season of the original Star trek called "The Doomsday Machine" where the crew of the Enterprise encountered this giant tube like machine that came from outside our galaxy. It used an anti-proton beam to chop out chunks of planets and then convert all the matter into propulsion fuel. Its hull was made out of Neutronium. When the Enterprise fired its phasers at the weapon they just bounced off, and when Commodore Decker's ship detonated inside the weapon creating an explosion equal to 97 megatons the hull was not ruptured.
