Guy on 2nd last test match:
Guy Novès: "There is a real increase compared to the low level of last week" By AFP 2 hours ago 18 TEST-MATCh - French coach Guy Novès said he saw in his team's performance Saturday in Durban against South Africa (15-37) "a real progression" compared to last week Facing the same Springboks (14-37). What is your feeling warm after this new heavy defeat, at the end of which it seems that there is a class of gap between the two teams? To read also L'Antisèche: It's really the depression ... Guy NOVEs: Hot, we realize that we are dealing with a team of South Africa in full physical shape. They were athletes, we knew. That there is a class of discrepancy ... We do not have much to say, because twice we take 37 points, I can only confirm what you say, at the moment . We are now touching on what remains to be done in the coming months in order to compete more regularly with these nations. "We started the second period by going five or six before the kick-off ... There's a bit of anger on my part" Have you been physically overwhelmed? GN: Obviously, I think the score is a little hard, but when we release a ball on interception (Trinh-Duc, for the test of Kolisi, 27th), we get another one in the hands (Penaud, for the final Serfontein test, 20th), and we take 14 points as easily, we can only notice the damage behind. We have made mistakes, this game demands faults. We started the second period by going five or six ahead of the kick-off ... There's a bit of anger on my part as well. The shot was corrected in the second half, after losing a lot of balls on the rucks in the first half. She was more balanced. There is a real increase from our low level last week. |

So Gatland has chosen Alan Wyn Jones rather than Maro Itoje to play alongside George Kruis on Saturday. Well, well, well.
Then he said this at a press conference. "We have picked a side based on form with a lot of players putting their hands up."

I think he is playing like Juve, pressing defence, waiting on mistakes counter attack squeeze ,the thing is Juve lost the final.
In saying that Maro great impact ,Jones a clever player/ captain Im happy enough with him on the team. The one thing that I cannot understand is Halfpenny on the bench,he is very slow, for the role of last man in defence,is he covering in case OF gets the yips, but surely Sexton covers that?

Can someone explain this.
When the Lions played in Oz 4 years ago the matches were around mid-day UK time so evening in Oz. Now the matches are at an un-godly hour of 8am. Do the Uk pubs open for full biz at such an hour or would they just serve coffee and toast ? Given that I know a local watering hole named 'The Lion' (Have not made this up) are advertising the games. Just too early to get up and certainly too early to find out what is on offer down the road. |
