Flick Colby was the driving force behind Pans People and so must go down as one of the greats of modern culture.
Her dance routine to 'Bridge over troubled water' was one of the best things I have ever seen. Shame I can't find it on u-tube. Thanks for so many memories dear lady. |

Bill Roycroft
James William George Roycroft, known as Bill, was a member of the gold medal winning Australian equestrian team three day event in Rome 1960. Bill was seriously injured (broken shoulder) during the event, and left his hospital bed against doctor's orders to compete in the final round, Show Jumping. He rode a great round and Australia won.
He also competed in 5 consecutive Summer Olympics 1960,1964,1968,1972, 1976. He was 45 years old in 1960, and was 61 when he competed at his last Olympics in 1976, where the team won bronze. He was also a bronze medalist in 1968. Personally I'm not a big fan of Olympic horse events, but this is an extremely impressive CV!! How he managed to ride in Show Jumps with a broken shoulder plus ride well is beyond me. See here for more information. |

Large Marge
Malgorzata "Margo" Dydek, the world's tallest female basketballer at 218.4cm or 7'2" died on May 27, 2011 aged 37.
The Polish-born centre and WNBA 1998 #1 draft pick had a heart attack on May 19 while pregnant with her third child and was placed in a medically induced coma. Sadly, the baby did not survive either. This does not look like a very even contest Unsurprisingly, she often led the WNBA in blocked shots. I'd never heard of Marge before reading this article, but I would have liked to have seen her play. See more here |

Western Legend
James Arness, the tall quiet Matt Dillion of Gunsmoke fame passed Friday, June 3rd. Over the twenty year run of Gunsmoke Arness played the Marshall of Dodge City as as both no-nonsense and dignified. RIP.

Donald Hewlett, who was best known for his role in the 1970s BBC sitcom It Ain't Half Hot Mum, has died aged 90.
The actor, who played Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Reynolds in the show, had been ill for some time, his wife told the BBC. He died at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in west London on Saturday, Therese McMurray-Hewlett said. Hewlett was also known for his role as master of the house, Lord Meldrum, in 1990s BBC sitcom You Rang M'Lord? The actor began his on-screen career with a small part in the 1954 comedy film Orders are Orders starring Peter Sellers, Donald Pleasance and Sid James. He went on to have roles in numerous TV shows including The Saint, The Avengers, Doctor Who and Coronation Street. But it was his turn as the commanding officer in It Ain't Half Hot Mum which made his name. The series, set in British India and Burma towards the end of World War II ran on BBC One from 1974-1981. Hewlett last appeared on TV in ITV sitcom The Upper Hand in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Therese, and daughter Siobhan, who is also an actress. |

Even Dr. Death must answer when the Grim Reaper comes calling......
Jack Kevorkian, 15 January 2011 Jacob "Jack" Kevorkian ( /kɨˈvɔrkiən/; May 26, 1928 – June 3, 2011) was an Armenian American pathologist, assisted suicide activist, painter, composer and instrumentalist. He is best known for publicly championing a terminal patient's right to die via physician-assisted suicide, which earned him the nickname "Dr. Death"; he said he assisted at least 130 patients to that end. He famously said "dying is not a crime". Beginning in 1999, Kevorkian served eight years of a 10-to-25-year prison sentence for second-degree murder. He was released on parole on June 1, 2007, on condition he would not offer suicide advice to any other person. Kevorkian had struggled with kidney problems for years. He had recently been diagnosed with liver cancer, which "may have been caused by hepatitis C," according to his longtime friend Neal Nicol. Kevorkian was hospitalized on May 18, 2011, with kidney problems and pneumonia. Kevorkian's conditions grew rapidly worse and he died from a thrombosis on June 3, 2011, eight days after his 83rd birthday, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. According to his attorney, Mayer Morganroth, there were no artificial attempts to keep him alive and his death was painless. Judge Thomas Jackson, who presided over Kevorkian's first murder trial in 1994, commented that he wanted to express sorrow at Kevorkian's passing and that the 1994 case was brought under "a badly written law" aimed at Kevorkian, but he tried to give him "the best trial possible". Kevorkian never married. As an oil painter and a jazz musician, Kevorkian marketed limited quantities of his visual and musical artwork to the public. Martin Rushent (63) - Music Producer
His career was initially as a studio engineer for the likes of T-Rex, Yes & Fleetwood Mac. later, with the rise of punk ruck, his production style was used by many - XTC, Buzzcocks, Generation X, The Stranglers & even Shirley Bassey amongst the long list. In the Eighties, after building his own studio at his Berkshire home, his ability & ingenuity to work with electronic instruments was brought to the worlds attention when he produced The Human League. He was a programming pioneer making great use of the Linn Drum & emerging synthesiser technology. The worldwide hit album & multi platinum Dare won him a Brit Award & its re-mix sister album Love & Dancing was a further extention of that success and he was later to work with Altered Images but was to fall away from the music production to be able to bring-up his children. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Rushent http://www.undercover.fm/news/14988-...ent-dead-at-63 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13663325 Last edited by NIN; June 7th, 2011 at 09:35 AM..
