Brock Yates passed on. A legendary automotive writer, and raconteur. He created the Cannonball Run, and actually did it, with Dan Gurney at the wheel of a lightning fast Ferrari Daytona. Fantastic writer too, really punchy and succinct. There were a few movies based on that story, Cannonball Run and The Gumball Rally. The Gumball Rally is by far the better car movie.

Re: Jean Alexander(Hilda Ogden-Coronation Street) I was most surprised to hear of her death but having left Coronation Street in 1987 when she left the series I was again to see her appear in another treasured institution(but this one has since finished) Last of the Summer Wine, where she played the owner of a bric-a-brac shop called Auntie Wainwright. No matter who went in, and even if she engaged them in conversation they weren't leaving without purchasing something-she made that character her own, in fact it turned out to be her favourite character outside of Hilda. My favourite scene was when the late Bernard Youens as her husband Stan Ogden, kisses his wife and says "what's that strange taste?" to which Hilda replies, "Woman Stanley, Woman!" May she enjoy all the Amontilado she can get(Hilda's favourite tipple)

Dennis Byrd was a very special NFL player. A second-round pick of the New York Jets, he showed immense promise on the field. Unfortunately, in a November 29, 1992 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Byrd collided head on with teammate Scott Mersereau. In that collision, Bryd's C-5 vertebra was broken, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Told he probably would never walk again, Bryd determinedly began a long and painful rehabilitation process. Through perseverance, and sheer willpower, he regained the ability to stand upright, and take forward steps. On September 5, 1993, Bryd walked onto the field to assist in the coin-toss. The crowd exploded in cheers, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
Dennis Byrd, at the age of 50, was killed in a car accident on October 15, 2016. His courage will never be forgotten.
