Edith Piaf Well, one form the past and I really don't think anybody could deny she has a very distinct voice, almost mesmerising La Vie En Rose

Doris Day
Mustn't forget Doris; she was a great icon of the American 50s. I can see the big fins on the cars in my minds eye right now. Dream a Little Dream of Me The Party's Over Autumn Leaves I Remember You How striking and how revealing that so much of Doris's ouevre, sung at the very very zenith of America's cultural energy and boundless confidence, is melancholy and in a minor key. Doris Day was in some ways the voice of America's vague and inchoate creative dissatisfaction with her fulfilled Dream, her appreciation that other hopes and dreams remained yet to be achieved. Once again, the singing human voice can use the power of music to communicate with the id, where mere words and logic can only touch the conscious mind.

This probably doesn't belong here - or does it?
A different genre from what's been posted so far but it's part of those voices - or chants - that move me. So, voilą. Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hildegard_of_Bingen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZa95OgwCEU Last edited by kelio; October 31st, 2010 at 07:43 PM.. |
