Handbrake issue question.
Finally got some time to download Handbrake and was pleasantly surprised that the process seemed a lot smoother / more streamlined from a few years back when I was using DVD Shrink.
The quality was great, although the last two scenes on title 1 of main movie was not recorded. The other trailers, photos, behind the scenes chapters got recorded in separate MKV files, just not last two scenes of main movie. I was reading something about also downloading "libdvdcss" to help and I did so, but I was confused about what it meant to copy this to the Handbrake folder - whatever this means and how to do this ? Here's a screenshot from what I found on internet. Possible anyone can make a suggestion, I really like the ease of Handbrake and ready to do some DVD's. Been out of loop a while. Thank you, Retro_XXX_Buff Last edited by Retro_XXX_Buff; April 9th, 2019 at 01:02 AM.. Reason: Attempt to add screenshot. |

The Handbrake folder will be under c:\Program Files\Handbrake
If you are using Win10, launch File Explorer. Click on Local Disk C. Click on Program Files. You will see a folder that says Handbrake. Right click on the dll file that you downloaded and left click copy from the dropdown menu. Then right click the Handbrake folder and left click paste from the dropdown folder. That will copy the dll file into the folder.

Thanks so much. I'll try that when I get time to get to my laptop.

I was able to copy over the dll, but still having problem.
Will try to find another ripper. Trying one of these recent releases 4K DVD's and that might be the issue. Thank you |

Another ripper you might try is MakeMKV (freeware)
http://makemkv.com/ You can use it to rip from DVD and/or blu-ray discs, and it will put each title into a separate MKV file (no re-encoding, just the original video, audio, subs, etc. unprocessed and "repackaged" in an MKV container). So the main movie will be in its own MKV file, and any extras/bonus material will be in their own MKVs. You could then watch the main movie MKV in a media player to see if it includes the missing final chapters that Handbrake missed. If the movie seems to be complete, then load the main movie MKV in Handbrake (choose "Open File") and encode the movie that way. I've found that MakeMKV is able to rip some DVDs that I couldn't rip properly with any other software that I tried.

Cool, I had luck downloading a few other programs and finally got some VOB's of whole movie, then ran them thru conversion to MP4. Ripit4me and DVD Decrypter among others. Found some suggestions on another thread here.
Thanks |

So now that I got the DVD ripped & saved as an MP4 file, I want to cut out a scene and save it preferably with Windows Movie Maker 6.
I downloaded Avidemux in order to make a copy of the MP4 as an AVI. I tried putting the MP4 into Windows Movie Maker but it wouldn't take the file. I've done past work on AVI's in WMM and I realize there will be some quality loss from MP4. I just like the smooth simplicity & options of WMM. I guess I need some tips on settings when I put the MP4 into Avidemux, as far as getting best quality output that will go into WMM. Man whole new learning curve again, I used to use this Avidemux but I'm rusty... Thank you |

If you only want to cut out a scene try to avoid converting and especially re-encoding. That only takes time and loses quality.
Simple cutting without re-encoding can easily be done with avidemux. It is worthwhile to invest some time to learn it. Here is a small howto: https://anonym.to/?https://help.pres...hAvidemux.html this is basically the same: https://anonym.to/?https://www.howto...with-avidemux/ I use avidemux to cut out scenes. If a scene is inter-cut I cut out the parts with avidemux using the mkv-muxer. Then the parts are joined using mkvtoolnix. Last edited by halvar; May 1st, 2019 at 12:19 PM.. |

AVIs "on the fly". I also found it doesn't like large files. A whole DVD may be too large for it to handle, Anything over 1Gb and it can crash, especially if to try to do any work. I usually chop out the bit I want and save it without any editing, and then edit the smaller video later. |
