Update: For those who use imgbox, I just received another email from Florian, she informed me that it may take perhaps another 2-3 hours for her to investigate and (hopefully) remedy the problem.
I emailed imagebam tech help and the reply was from Florian. If the problem is with both hosts and they are connected then hopefully the problem will be sorted for both. R

Well I've been educated, she certainly gets around and must obviously oversee both facilities.

Florian kept her word and imgbox was up and running again several hours later as she stated it would be in her email to me.

What about imagevenue? I've been getting an immediate pop-up message that says my computer may have a virus, my credit card info maybe compromised, etc, etc. None of which l believe to be true. Frustrating, because it freezes my computer and forces me to entirely reboot everything. Anyone else having this problem?

I have also experienced those bogus and annoying so-called virus pop-ups on other sites as well with various hosted images, some of which providing you the ability/option to pay by credit card and even by Pay Pal to allegedly remedy the so-called attack ... some even have the large "FBI" letters to make it appear more genuine and authentic!
You're right, they are very frustrating because multiple back-clicking, X-ing out, and even opening the Task Manager and attempting to close the program all fail, and the only recourse available is to usually reboot your computer!

I personally believe the majority of those bogus so-called virus threat pop-ups to be a money-making scheme being perpetrated by idiots too lazy to go out and find a job and work for a living, and/or are assholes just being assholes!
After receiving one of those pain-in-the-ass pop-ups, to be on the safe side I will typically perform a Malwarebytes scan, which has thankfully resulted in clear and "no threats detected" scans, thus far.

No need to re-boot, just use Ctl/Alt/Delete to show all the processes and highlight the process (note -there may be more than one) relating to that message then click on End Task. When you go back into your browser do not choose the 'restore' option after the forced close but open a new browser window and start again, afresh. And yes - none of it is true, it is just BS encouraging you to use their high-rate phone line.

When clicking Ctl/Alt/Delete you are basically opening the Task Manager, and Mr Casey and I have already established that going that route and clicking End Task generally fails as well. Speaking for myself, when clicking End Task either the command does not respond and nothing happens, or I will get a small pop-up stating that This Action Cannot Be Completed/Performed, for whatever reason or another. At that point I have no other remaining recourse or option available to me but to reboot the system.

I'm glad that the procedure you described works for you -- apparently Mr Casey and I thus far must be receiving much more persistent and "intelligently" devised pop-ups being perpetrated by some pretty savvy scammers than you have received.

** As a matter of info -- I received one of those irritating pop-ups again yesterday, that one containing a type of police siren and with a voice ... "Attention! Attention! A virus has been detected in your system", and also containing the usual payment options!
Fortunately, and thankfully I was able to simply "X" out and continue on my way -- so obviously the perpetrator of that one must have been a novice.

Indeed that does open the Task Manager and I also then click to 'show processes from all users' - not sure if that also affects the applications display too. The only possible difference I can think of is that I logon with Admin status - perhaps that explains it? I am still on Windows Vista - possibly something different on Win 7 or above?

Over the past three years, the "quality" of these cash-scam scripts has deteriorated; as more and more scammers copy one-another's code to obtain quick entry into the game.

My first experience (in 2013) was similar to cuzzyman's . . . complete lock-up of computer screen with threat from Interpol , camera activated to display my image in one corner of the screen, and siren sounding. Reboot did nothing; my browser automatically presented at start-up, with the bogus message from Interpol.

Fortunately, I was able to use my other computer to google search the issue, and learned how to use MalwareBytes to remove the offending script.

I now encounter the less aggressive versions of this scam on a daily basis, and use the Task Manager to shut them down. Oddly, my Trend-Micro Maximum Security suite does intercept them; and neither does MalwareBytes.

I understand that some Ad-Blockers are effective, but I have not yet installed one.

I have Ad-block Plus installed and the fact that I am still occasionally receiving those nuisance pop-ups would seem to indicate that even Ad-block is not an overly effective remedy.

Adblock only works from a list of inclusions / exceptions, depending on the user for some input. If you receive occasional pop-ups, take note of the destination & source. Reset your noscript to default (wipes out user-added exclusions to the whitelist) and retry after clearing the browsercache and restarting firefox. Any popups now shouldnt be dangerous.

IF you still think the pop-up dangerous, remove all exceptions from the whitelist and again restart firefox and try the sourcepage again. IF the popup occurs, then its not a scripting problem -might be a virus form linked to firefox on your harddrive.
