Florian kept her word and imgbox was up and running again several hours later as she stated it would be in her email to me.

What about imagevenue? I've been getting an immediate pop-up message that says my computer may have a virus, my credit card info maybe compromised, etc, etc. None of which l believe to be true. Frustrating, because it freezes my computer and forces me to entirely reboot everything. Anyone else having this problem?

You're right, they are very frustrating because multiple back-clicking, X-ing out, and even opening the Task Manager and attempting to close the program all fail, and the only recourse available is to usually reboot your computer! I personally believe the majority of those bogus so-called virus threat pop-ups to be a money-making scheme being perpetrated by idiots too lazy to go out and find a job and work for a living, and/or are assholes just being assholes! After receiving one of those pain-in-the-ass pop-ups, to be on the safe side I will typically perform a Malwarebytes scan, which has thankfully resulted in clear and "no threats detected" scans, thus far.

I'm glad that the procedure you described works for you -- apparently Mr Casey and I thus far must be receiving much more persistent and "intelligently" devised pop-ups being perpetrated by some pretty savvy scammers than you have received. ** As a matter of info -- I received one of those irritating pop-ups again yesterday, that one containing a type of police siren and with a voice ... "Attention! Attention! A virus has been detected in your system", and also containing the usual payment options! Fortunately, and thankfully I was able to simply "X" out and continue on my way -- so obviously the perpetrator of that one must have been a novice.

My first experience (in 2013) was similar to cuzzyman's . . . complete lock-up of computer screen with threat from Interpol , camera activated to display my image in one corner of the screen, and siren sounding. Reboot did nothing; my browser automatically presented at start-up, with the bogus message from Interpol. Fortunately, I was able to use my other computer to google search the issue, and learned how to use MalwareBytes to remove the offending script. I now encounter the less aggressive versions of this scam on a daily basis, and use the Task Manager to shut them down. Oddly, my Trend-Micro Maximum Security suite does intercept them; and neither does MalwareBytes. I understand that some Ad-Blockers are effective, but I have not yet installed one. |

I have Ad-block Plus installed and the fact that I am still occasionally receiving those nuisance pop-ups would seem to indicate that even Ad-block is not an overly effective remedy.

IF you still think the pop-up dangerous, remove all exceptions from the whitelist and again restart firefox and try the sourcepage again. IF the popup occurs, then its not a scripting problem -might be a virus form linked to firefox on your harddrive. |
